  • We are looking for a Design and Learning Manager to lead innovation in program design and delivery using a Human-Centered Design (HCD) approach within the Adolescent Youth Sexual Reproductive Health (AYSRH) portfolio.

  • Reporting to Technical Advisor, RISE, this individual will guide adaptation of an existing family planning counseling approach (Smart Start) to meet the needs of the new Global Affairs Canada-funded program, which aims to support married rural adolescents and young women to access family planning.

  • The role will contribute to the larger efforts of the Design Learning and Adaptation team to improve health interventions for adolescents in Ethiopia across a range of other programs.

    You will work under the supervision of the Technical Advisor, RISE. Specific roles include:

  • Lead a multi-organizational team through the Human-Centered
    Design (HCD) process to build demand for quality contraceptive services among adolescent girls

  • Create tools for qualitative research, including interview guides

  • Lead synthesis of field visit learnings with program participants to identify lesson learned and next steps for program design

  • Engage adolescents and young in-school designers in the Human-Centered Design (HCD) process

  • Lead testing of ideas in the field (prototyping) to validate learnings and develop viable demand-creation products

  • Build the capacity of other team members to understand and use HCD approaches for program design and improvement

  • Lead planning for field learning visits, including strategy and logistics

  • Co-design of adapted Smart Start counseling and service delivery to include safe abortion and post-abortion (SA/PAC)

  • Lead the development of animated videos and messaging about each method and adapt tablet-based counseling

  • Incorporate gender assessment /research finding input and gender messaging in smart start
    Document HCD journey and findings through the creation of timely written reports and PPT decks
    Support in transforming insights generated into practical tools (deck, videos, and other materials).

  • Field travel up to 40% of the time within Ethiopia to project sites

    Job Requirements

  • MA/BA Degree in Sociology, Psychology, Anthropology, Communications and Marketing, Design, Social Work, other Behavioral Sciences, or related degree

  • Minimum eight (8) years of professional experience

  • Minimum two (2) years of experience in people management

  • Experience with two (2) or more of the following: human-centered design/design thinking, youth, and gender, reproductive health, qualitative research

  • Demonstrated ability to work well with other teams and people

  • Fluent in English and Amharic, other languages are an asset.
