PLE Results: Stop Giving Preregistration Tests to Pupils - First Lady Directs

The minister of education, Ms Janet Museveni has reiterated her warning to schools giving their pupils preregistration tests before being allowed to sit for the Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE).

Speaking at the release of the 2019 PLE results at Kampala Parents’ School on Friday, Ms Museveni said that as much as Uganda National Examination Board (UNEB) noted an increase in the number of candidates who sat for the 2019 PLE, the numbers would have been higher if the preregistration tests were not administered to pupils in some schools.

"It is unfortunate that some teachers take it upon themselves to determine the destiny if pupils by giving preregistration tests.

This practice must stop, because some pupils end up dropping out of school all together," she said.

The minister who doubles as the First Lady advised the schools to instead concentrate on effective teaching throughout the primary cycle to ensure that all learners who reach primary seven are able to write PLE.

She also noted that there was an increasing number of teachers involved in the circulation of fake examination papers, describing it as “absurd.”

“It is sad to know that teachers and parents are leading students into examination Mal-practices.

Some students failed because led them into malpractice and found different questions in the exams,” Ms Museveni added.
