Plan International NGO Project Manager Jobs in Kenya


Role Purpose

  • The project aims to improve child well-being (health, learning and protection/participation) in targeted vulnerable and marginalized communities through effective and holistic early childhood supports.
  • The Project Manager will report to the Program Manager Education.
  • S/he has oversight of all other contributing staff on this project(s). S/he will uphold Plan Values, promote programme principals (transparency, gender equity and diversity), to enhance programme impact;
  • Ensure modelling of Plan’s values among all project staff.
  • This position is primarily responsible for the project by ensuring successful initiation, planning, design, execution, monitoring in a gender responsive fashion, controlling and closure of the project.
  • S/he will be accountable for project staff management, monitoring and evaluation, stakeholder and partner relationship management, designing and development of complimentary or new funding proposals and ensuring quality is delivered throughout the project life.
  • The Project Manager will be responsible for the management of Plan Kenya’s Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) projects.
  • S/he will have managed project budgets over and above USD2 million preferably across various implementation sites and have worked with partners. Please note this position will be available to be transferred or incorporate management of other projects as advised by senior management.

  • All targeted girls and boys equally participate in quality ECCD centers in the year or two before primary school.
  • All targeted girls and boys equally participate in school-based and community-based activities that improve performance and retention in school.
  • National polices and plans across sectors to ensure early childhood outcomes.
  • Strengthened Families for ECCD Implementation Approach/Activities.
  • Activities for transition to primary support.

    Skills

  • Transfers knowledge and skills; supports implementing partners to deliver program services and support according to the approved work plan, standards, and timelines.
  • Strong report writing skills; ability to identify the key elements and criteria of writing quality reports. Capacity to produce accurate, consistent, high standard reports for the project in compliance with donor standards.
  • Communicates with influence: Demonstrated effective interpersonal communication skills, including conflict resolution and negotiation skills community consultation skills and an ability to prepare accurate and detailed documentation.
  • Building effective teams and partnerships:
  • Acting as a team player, even if this results in adjustment of own priorities; develops mutually trusting relationships with complex partnerships to deliver excellent business outcomes.
  • Proficient in computer skills: including a proficiency in Microsoft Office and working knowledge with different computer programs, both computer and web-based.
  • Striving for high performance: plans and commits to deliver quality outputs in each aspect of their work.
  • Decision making and risk management: Sound judgement and decision-making in complex situations; alerts others to risks inside and outside the program.
  • Self-awareness and resilience: Remains calm and positive under pressure and in difficult situations;

    Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Education, Early Childhood Development, Social Sciences or Development Studies.
  • At least 4 years’ experience in project management/coordination.
  • Strong Knowledge of community development.
    Conversant with Education programs especially
  • Early Childhood Care and Development issues.
  • Experience in grants management, proposal development insights and resource mobilization.
  • Experience in education/health/gender related projects, partnership building, networking and collaboration with GOK, county governments and other actors including the private sector are a critical requirement.
  • Knowledge in donor reporting requirements an added advantage.
  • High level of integrity, values, ethics and attitudes that align with principles of Plan’s Child Protection Policy.
  • Knowledge of local language desirable.

    Plan International NGO Senior Project Manager Jobs in Kenya

    Accountabilities:

    Program Leadership and Financial Management

  • Lead high quality, results-oriented program planning, implementation and reporting in compliance with donor, government and partnership agreements.
  • Design and oversee an annual program cycle and budget for the project in accordance with donor’s annual planning cycle and compliance requirements.
  • Oversee staff and partner work plans, deliverable and compliance requirements.
  • Create management systems and processes consistent with program needs.
  • Coordinate efficient procurement of project supplies and services with finance, program and procurement colleagues.
  • Ensure program strategies in education and child protection adhere to best practices in the sector, integrating gender equality, child participation, inclusion and environmental sustainability as cross-cutting themes.
  • Ensure that local laws and operational policies and protocols, including for security, are observed and respected.
  • Serve as primary liaison with Plan International Canada on administrative, programmatic, financial and technical matters.

    Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in an interdisciplinary area such as International Development, Strategic Planning, Program Management, etc. or equivalent.
  • At least 10 years of demonstrable experience in managing government and bilateral donor funded grants.
  • Progressive experience working for INGOs in increasingly senior positions (Chief of Party/Program Director level strongly preferred), ideally in Kenya.
  • Previous management of projects with budgets of $10 million or higher, and with multiple partners (including government and civil society).
  • Experience managing complex and multi-thematic programs, specifically in areas of education and child protection.
  • Track record of achieving programmatic results and impact.
  • Strong understanding of gender responsive programming and meaningful child participation in programs.
  • Knowledge of development challenges and context in Kenya, in particular of education and child protection systems.
  • Remote management of project staff.
  • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively without the need for close supervision.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally in person and with remote teams.
  • Familiarity with Global Affairs Canada (GAC) guidelines and requirements.
  • Experience in child-centered programming.
  • Fluent in both English and Swahili.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office, database, internet etc.
