Responsibilities
Lead or manage the set up or scale up of emergency responses ensuring safe power, voice & data communication and IT functions
Complete needs assessment to understand and prioritise short and long-term power, communications and IT needs,
Creation of an ICT operational management plan
Carry out the physical set up of power, communications and IT systems
Initially utilizing portable technologies such as BGAN as the response advances
Thereafter facilitate high capacity semi-permanent communications using technologies such as VSAT
Qualifications
Needs assessment and surveying skills
Planning and project management skills
Experience of managing costs and preparing a telecoms budget
Familiar with fixed and mobile satellite communications, Mobile technologies (e.g. 3G, mobile data collection), computer hardware and maintenance, setting up networks LAN, WAN, Wifi, Point to Point connection, GPS, BGANs, VHF and UHF Radio
Experience in mobile device rapid assessments tool
Experience of working in Field locations.
Experience of working in disaster response advantageous but not essential
FITTEST or other equivalent ICT in emergencies training an advantage.
Hostile Environment Awareness Training
Good communication and documentation skills
Written and spoken English
Language skills appropriate to the deployment an advantage.
Experience in training
Teamwork, patience, flexibility, motivation
Networking (clusters, other responders)

Plan International Gender in Emergencies Job Vacancies in Kenya
Responsibilities
Conduct rapid situational analysis on how the crisis has impacted on girls, boys, women and men, highlighting in-country gender roles & responsibilities and key gender issues (ensuring issues related to GBV and SRH are included in the analysis).
Support inclusion of Sex and Age Disaggregated Data (SADD) in all assessment work and subsequent analysis of the data, ensuring that such data helps inform the design of programme interventions.
Support programme staff with participatory methodologies with girls, boys, women and men and that consultations are held at times and places most convenient and suitable for the participants.
Support the development of funding submissions ensuring proposals receive a Gender Marker code of at least 2a
Support the ongoing monitoring and evaluation activities, ensuring that issues are highlighted and addressed.
Support the development of appropriate accountability / feedback mechanisms ensuring girls, boys, women and men have a voice.
Qualifications
Significant field experience of gender programming in
a number of humanitarian crises.
Demonstrated experience of key practice and standards for humanitarian response such as SPHERE and CHS.
Conversant with the international humanitarian architecture, particularly related to coordination and funding.
Experience of designing and delivering training
Able to work in English. It is desirable to be able to work in at least one other international language, for example French, Spanish, Portuguese or Arabic
Knowledge of Plan policies and procedures, Sphere and the Red Cross/ NGO Code of Conduct
Proficiency in information technology/ computer skills.

Plan International Communications in Emergencies Job Vacancies in Kenya
Responsibilities
Manage and / or support an emergency communications team
Primary comms focal point for National Organisations, International Headquarters and Regional Offices
Position Plan International as a key player in the emergency response to help us raise funds
Through strong content highlight the humanitarian situation on the ground, cover Plan International’s response and reinforce Plan International’s advocacy and policy position on the situation
Plan, produce and coordinate content in conjunction with designated communications contacts in Country Office/RO/IH.
Produce press releases and a range of compelling human interest child-focused content such as: case studies, eyewitness accounts, blogs, first person account, images, audio, video
Package and position content for sharing with key audiences including external media, digital and social media, internal and key external stakeholders.
Ensure all content is available for everyone in the Plan federation to use by uploading all content in high resolution onto the global Media Bank or working closely with IH/RO to ensure that everything is available on the Media Bank.
Collaborate with the country procurement and logistic staff to create a ‘price list’ of items for public appeals
Monitor and evaluate the impact of our communications work
Monitor the situation for challenges, risks, threats and opportunities related to the emergency context that may impact communications and public engagement approaches, messaging and operations
Qualifications
Experience of communications in disaster and emergency response
Experience of managing a team
High level of understanding of media, social media and Information Technology
Familiarity and understanding of Humanitarian Policy and Advocacy
Prior experience travelling to, or working in, a developing country in an emergency environment
Experience as a spokesperson
Understanding of Plan International’s child protection policy and brand guidelines
Experience of working with photographers / videographers, and negotiating rates and usage rights
