PATH is currently recruiting a Young Women’s Entrepreneurship and Economic Empowerment Officer to support the next phase of the Chak a Chaka project in Kenya whose objectives are to:
Develop local partnerships to complement and sustain Chak a Chaka models.
Provide enterprise-specific, tailored, and targeted business, vocational, and entrepreneurship skills training to existing Chak a Chaka groups from phase 1.
Develop and utilize appropriate partnerships with key stakeholders to increase individual participants’ training, mentorship, and networks for sustainability.
Maintain prevention of new HIV infections by sustaining access and uptake of prevention and sexual and reproductive health services by young women, including increasing uptake of expanded mix of post-partum family planning options by new mothers.
Conduct routine project data collection and analysis for implementation documentation, course correction and learning.
The incumbent, with support from the Team Lead, will work with the Chak a Chaka Groups, private and public stakeholders to achieve partnership outcomes leading to sustained economic strengthening of the beneficiaries. Further, the Program Officer will initiate conversations and attain commitments from other development partners, projects, and organizations to adopt the Chak a Chaka model of economic support to vulnerable young women.
Responsibilities
In close collaboration with the project Team Lead, deliver on the objectives of the Chak a Chaka scale up.
Revitalize the Chak a Chaka groups for the second phase of the project and update the current active membership in preparation for services.
Identify and map local and county level public and private sector stakeholders, ongoing young women-focused projects, civil society organizations and individual philanthropists
Conduct stakeholder dialogue sessions an develop stakeholder partnership agreements with the aim of mobilizing cost-share to complement the Chak a Chaka contribution.
Conduct Chak a Chaka training needs assessment and facilitate joint training with the government and private partners to respond to the needs.
Prepare Chak a Chaka groups to be ready to competitively bid for the County Business Boost Fund.
Coordinate Chak a Chaka groups membership to Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) for business networking.
Coordinate the project’s support to internship and job placement of eligible young women.
Plan and implement the Chak a Chaka vocational training support for one group member in male-dominated trades.
Work closely with the department of health to provide friendly and
accessible HIV prevention, reproductive health, and family planning services to Chak a Chaka beneficiaries.
Conduct graduation of groups into self-sustainability at the end of the project.
Write and submit periodic project reports.
Disseminate periodic reports and feedback to partner and stakeholders on project progress, especially on the outcomes of collaboration.
In collaboration with the M&E team, ensure that reporting and documentation of results from financial and business initiatives is done effectively and efficiently, and disseminated to relevant stakeholders.
Build strong relationships and strengthen referral and linkages between local businesses, stakeholders, and community services for young women.
Monitor and disseminate global trends & initiatives on women and economic development.
In consultation with the project lead team, develop plans, budgets, and progress reports in line with donor requirements and project work plan.
Participate in quarter donor feedback meetings and calls.
Develop papers and presentations for dissemination in conferences and other forums with the aim of achieving buy-in of the Chak a Chaka model of economic support to young women.
Required Experience
Bachelor's degree from an accredited university; with a concentration in Global Health, Economics, Gender Studies, Project Management, or related area.
At least 3 years of working experience preferred. Minimum 2 years of practical experience working on entrepreneurship and women’s economic empowerment.
Experience working with partners to co-finance and cost share projects.
Commitment to the advancement of women’s leadership and participation in business.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills coupled with project management abilities.
Leadership skills, including a commitment to collaborative management within a team-based organizational structure and a proven ability to direct change, inspire teamwork, and motivate staff and partners to achieve results.
Ability to travel for meetings and site visits.
Proven success in managing teams in dynamic, results-based environments.
Demonstrated understanding of DREAMS objectives and initiatives, experience with AGYW programming in developing community settings desired.
Ability to work independently and with a team.
Excellent computer skills using MS Office Suite required, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
Knowledge of the language locally spoken in Kisumu, Homa Bay, and/or Migori Counties a plus.
