Key Responsibilities
Support the team leader in establishing strategic coordination platform of key AMR/AMU stake holders:
Under guidance of the team leader, support NASIC in planning and establishing an effective coordination mechanism at national and sub-national levels among partners and key stake holders in AMR surveillance on animal health
Support the team leader in convening multi sectorial meetings to link the concerned ministries and departments of human health, animal health and agriculture including fisheries department
Provide assistance for institutionalizing a structured accountability frame work, through review meetings with the national experts and monitoring progress, using AMR/AMU surveillance data on animal health surveillance
Help in establishing and strengthening a common data platform for various laboratory network existing, as part of the AMR/AMU sentinel-site network, across human and animal health side
Support the team leader in establishing regular communication and coordination among all key nodal officers in the selected sentinel site surveillance system, existing across both human and animal health.
Provide Technical assistance on Animal Health for AMR and AMU surveillance strengthening across Kenya
Support the project with need-based guidance to the project team including consortium partners for implementation of project deliverables in close collaboration with national program managers and in-country partners, from the animal health prospective
Assist the govt. on AMR/AMU surveillance network existing across the country, in collaboration with national stake holders and identified technical partners / universities and departments, and accordingly plan restructuring and rebuilding of the sentinel-site surveillance for animal health surveillance.
Conduct capacity building and training workshops for the bio-surveillance workforce in collaboration with technical partners, national experts using the national trainers for the animal health network of laboratories and hospitals across the country.
Undertake joint field monitoring visit to the identified sentinel site surveillance network hospitals and laboratories, to provide supportive supervision and feedback to the national program managers on animal health.
Ensuring adherence across animal health hospital and laboratories to ensure standard operating procedures, defined as global standards, including best practices per FAO global guideline and as outlined in the country’s AMR/AMU strategic plan.
Undertake field visit
and provided oversight on the ground for laboratory renovation, refurbishment, restructuring and installation of laboratory equipment’s in partners and Govt. program managers.
Assist with donor reporting with support from the technical, financial administrative team.
Technical monitoring
Coordinate with technical, finance and administrative staff and provide monitoring support to the team.
Continuously collaborate with other cross cutting ministries, departments, and PATH office to assess the technical progress and efficacy of AMR/AMU surveillance across animal health domain.
Any other activities required under AMR/AMU surveillance fortifications efforts across the country, as assigned by protect management
Required Experience
Education
Master’s in public health or related field, microbiology
Minimum 5 years of working experience in surveillance systems/animal health /microbiology
Preference will be given to individuals having working experience, on AMR surveillance in the country
Skills
Minimum Master’s degree or higher in public health, international development, or related field with a focus on infectious disease detection, surveillance, or diagnostics
Strong analytical skills and the ability to use data for decision making
Strong English written, oral, and presentation skills
Demonstrated interpersonal skills in facilitation and stakeholder engagement/coordination
Proficient knowledge in surveillance and infectious disease epidemiology/AMR
Past/present teaching and training experience in Animal Health /Microbiology
Experience of project management in AMR or global health projects
Expertise in local vernacular language
Proven interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a team;
Basic computer skills in MS office packages
Must have legal authorization to work in Kenya.
