PATH’s Medical Device and Health Technology (MDHT) program is currently looking for a Commercialization Officer based in Nairobi to carry out activities under a new USAID-funded project titled MATRIX, supporting next-generation HIV prevention and management technologies suitable for low- and middle-income countries. The Commercialization Officer is expected to work closely with the Seattle-based PATH team in MDHT who is leading the project activities at PATH.
The Commercialization Officer will be responsible for coordinating/managing global-level activities (with focus on Sub-Saharan Africa) to make sure the required outputs are delivered with high quality and on time.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Assess the manufacturing landscape and potential device and pharmaceutical manufacturing capacities within Sub-Saharan Africa for portfolio technologies. This may include an evaluation of the raw material supply chains and active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) pertinent to product manufacturing.
Support the collection of market intelligence, data analysis, and the development of assumptions for market sizing for the respective portfolio technologies.
Conduct secondary research to understand regulatory systems and requirements in Sub-Saharan Africa for the portfolio technologies.
Contribute to the team’s technical assessment of manufacturability approaches that inform product development decision-making.
Understand the network of Sub-Saharan Africa-based stakeholders which work within the area of strengthening local production for pharmaceuticals.
Managing relationships with partners working within Sub-Saharan Africa.
Regularly communicate with the project lead to update on the progress of the project. Foresee potential risks/challenges, inform the project
lead of them proactively, and identify/propose solutions to mitigate them.
Participate in project meetings and help write reports to the prime or funder as needed.
Provide additional support to other MATRIX activities as needed.
Required Experience
Master's Degree in Economics, Public Health, business administration, or equivalent advanced degree plus a minimum of five (05) years in market analysis, healthcare management consulting, or other relevant private and public sector experience.
Experience with product life-cycle management.
Experience engaging with both public and private sector partners. Familiarity with pharmaceutical industry a plus.
Knowledge of health systems, medical products, and regulatory systems.
Solid technical knowledge of market analysis, including:
Secondary research/landscape analysis and interviews with key stakeholders.
Manufacturer due diligence analysis.
Ability to synthesize findings and translate them into programmatic and policy recommendations.
Familiarity with HIV issues and products a plus.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
Demonstrated ability to multi-task and thrive in fast-paced, high-pressure situations.
Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain close and effective relationships with partnering organizations at local, national, and international levels.
Proven effectiveness working in a team-based environment, but capable also of working independently.
Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally.
