Job DescriptionOrganizational Profile:Partners In Health (PIH) is a non-profit corporation based in Boston, Massachusetts, whose mission is to provide a preferential option for the poor in health care.
Through service delivery, training, research, and advocacy, PIH works globally to bring the benefits of modern science to those in most in need, and to serve as an antidote to despair.
PIH currently has programs in Ethiopia, Haiti, Peru, Guatemala, Mexico, Russia, Rwanda, Lesotho, Malawi, Burundi, Kazakhstan, the Dominican Republic, Sierra Leone, Liberia and Boston.
General Responsibilities: The accountant will be a valuable member of the PIH Accounting team in budget management, recording daily transactions as well as the monthly and annual close processes. She/he will be responsible for a variety of duties including recording and tracking daily cash expenditures, the completion of monthly G/L account and bank reconciliations, and document retention.
Specific Responsibilities:
Process payments, run checks weekly, and mail checks, ensuring all payables are remitted timely. Handle and follow up on all incoming calls or written requests from vendors; maintain filing system and track invoices on request. Process requests for miscellaneous invoice billings.
Maintain and log all project expenditures. Ensure all receipts and documentation are clear, reasonable and approved by the Finance Manager (Boston).
Monitor cash flow of project to ensure adequate fund balance to run the
project.
Prepare payroll for employees in consultation with Finance Manager (Boston).
Complete balance sheet account reconciliations on a monthly basis.
Manage local audits, assist with internal and external audits.
Update budgets and maintain monthly budget vs actual.
Immediately report to the Finance Manager or Country Representative any problems, issues or concerns regarding the integrity of site financial reports.
Provide any financial report that may be requested for specific financial activities.
Maintain confidentiality of all accounting information or accounting activities.
Perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to time by Finance Manager or Country Representative.
Duration of contract: October 2019 –December 2019 (Three months)
Job Requirements
Qualifications:
Degree in Accounting, Business, Economics, or related.
A minimum of three years of relevant accounting or auditing experience.
Spoken and written fluency in English.
Spoken and written fluency in Amharic, Afaan Oromoo and other Ethiopian languages desirable.
Demonstrated ability to work independently.
Evidence of strong computer skills in Microsoft Excel, Outlook and Word required.
Demonstrated proficiency with automated accounting systems.
Prior experience with fund accounting in an international non-profit organization is preferred.
The successful candidate will be conscientious and will be driven by process improvement and delivery of a quality product as evidenced by prior work and education experience
