Project Overview and Role: The Feed the Future Ag Diversification Activity is a five year project (September 2016 – September 2021) that contributes to USAID/Malawi’s Feed the Future goal of sustainably reducing poverty and malnutrition in eight districts of central and southern Malawi. The Activity fosters inclusive and sustainable growth in Malawi’s agricultural sector, enhances resilience to climate change, empowers women, and improves the nutritional status of women and children, and at the same time increases the competitiveness of marketable, nutrient-rich value chains through support for agricultural enterprises and increased access to markets and finance.
The Resilience Lead will lead all technical and managerial activities in Outcome II. Outcome II focuses on increasing resiliency and adaptability at both the farm and community levels. The Outcome will increase the resiliency of farm communities to adapt to climate change and adverse weather conditions and variability.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Manages the “Resiliency of Smallholder Farming Systems Strengthened Outcome” and works closely with the COP and other Outcome leads to develop resilience, adaptation, and risk reduction strategies and work plans
Develops strategies and programs to increase farmers’ knowledge of, access to, and application
of improved climate smart agriculture (CSA), sustainable landscapes management, and technologies and practices for diversified agricultural production
Undertakes resilience-building interventions aimed at increasing adaptive capacity and mitigating risk in smallholder farming systems, while incorporating principles of CSA throughout the other Outcomes (growth of Ag. incomes; nutrition; women’s empowerment).
Directly supervises the two Regional Resilience Coordinators, and indirectly oversees the activities of partner and grantee staff who coordinate on disseminating risk reduction, NRM, and CSA information within their broader scope of agricultural support, to help smallholders (regardless of age and gender) to anticipate and prepare for climate-related changes
Works with AgDiv partners and consultants to support the development of the Resiliency Index including collection, analysis and sharing of adaption and risk reduction data
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Natural Resources Management, Economics, or related field. Master’s degree preferred.
At least 5-7 years of experience in value chain and market systems development or climate change adaptation, risk reduction, and resilience-building projects
Experience promoting CSA technologies and/or techniques
Experience on other similar donor-funded projects; prior experience on USAID programs preferred
An understanding of monitoring and evaluation
Professional fluency in English
