Job SummaryThe project officer is responsible for the direct implementation of all Nutrition activities in the entire project area.
He/She will work closely with the Nutrition Assistants to ensure technical standards in PACHEDO health Nutrition programming that will include support and capacity building of Nutrition Assistant and supervise 04 Nutrition assistants, and will be regularly reporting to the Project manager/Coordinator.
Tasks and Responsibilities
• Ensuring timely implementation of the proposed donor activities through Nutrition Assistants, Positive Deviance (PD) supervisors, Village Health Committees (VHC) and support from the stakeholders.
• Facilitate training of PD Supervisors and VHC members on PD/Hearth approach.
• Ensuring project/programme activities are implemented according to recognized international standards with appropriate monitoring and Evaluation plan.
• Facilitate training of Care Group promoters on Positive Deviance/Hearth Approach and Care Group Model
• Ensuring appropriate Nutrition protocols and data collection tools are available for use by the Nutrition Assistants.
• Oversee identification and selection of lead mothers
• Coordinate exchange visits between beneficiaries in the refugee settlement and the host community.
• Organize and conduct radio talk shows that promote IYCF practices
• Conduct nutrition Education sessions at health facilities during ANC visit days
• Organize quarterly dialogue meetings on IYCF at the village level
• Organize dramas and songs with local drama groups to be integrated into the quarterly community dialogues
• Take part in all Nutrition assessments in both the refuge settlement and host community
• Ensuring availability and compliance with the Nutrition and health Cluster, Ministry of Health and international technical guidelines and protocols.
• Monitoring the Health Nutrition and food security situation on the ground and advice the project Coordinator.
• Coordinate activities with relevant local government offices and partners in Refugee settlements and sub-county leadership.
• Ensure internal reporting and documentation requirements are on time and accurate by maintaining comprehensive project documentation, plans and activity reports.
• Provide periodic weekly/monthly and quartile plans and reports to Project Coordinator.
• Responsible for the effective and efficient management of all assets of the organization entrusted strictly for only official work purposes in the project site
Professional Qualification and Experience
• University Degree in Nutrition,
• At least 2 years or more hands-on experience in community mobilization work, community development, Nutrition, sanitation, public health related work.
• Knowledge of Maternal Child Health and Nutrition concepts
• Experience in Humanitarian context, implementation with an NGO and conducting Nutrition surveys and collecting meaningful
data is desirable.
• Knowledge in Positive Deviance/Hearth and Care Group Model approaches in managing Acute Malnutrition are desirable.
• Experience in teaching/training adult learners and training in basic household nutrition practices will be added advantage.
• Experience in the IYCF practices, principles and operations associated with WASH, Nutrition and Nutrition sensitive agricultural production.
• Team player with excellent communication, organisation and planning skills and to communicate in time and work in a team
• Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions independently.
• Excellent communications skills both oral and written are desired.
• Working experience in Acholi and lango context and fluency of English and Luo is a MUST
• Demonstrated interpersonal and resource mobilization skills and proactive problem solving skills.
• Ability to instruct and work with children, families, volunteers and community leaders
• Knowledge and sensitivity to gender equality, ethnic minority issues in confidential situations.
• Good computer skills with MS office and proven documentation and Excellent/quality report writing skills.
• Ability to learn new concepts/ideas and willingness to work and live in a rural community setting
• A valid motor vehicle driving license/permit, including the ability to ride and to access target communities and care for a motorcycle assigned.
