We have an exciting opportunity for someone who wishes to build a good career in international development. We are looking for a dynamic and capable Programme Officer, to join our team in Addis Ababa on a for a full-time basis, from October.
About the programmeBuilding Resilience in Ethiopia (BRE) is a programme funded by the UK Department for International Development.
This programme will support ‘the Government of Ethiopia in leading and delivering an effective, more self-financed and accountable response to climate and humanitarian shocks’.
The programme will also play a key role in better monitoring and evaluating humanitarian delivery in Ethiopia, particularly under the broader BRE programme.
About the roleReporting to the Team Leader, you will help organise various workstreams and support the implementation of the programme. You will also work closely with team members based in Addis Ababa, in Oxford (UK), and with third-party stakeholders.
Key responsibilities will include: Supporting the Team Leader in tracking workstream delivery
Collating and organising digital storage of documentary output
Coordinating the tasking note system (i.e. outputs agreed with the donor)
Maintaining a consultant database
Supporting international Technical Advisors with their visit schedules and networking
Supporting the Team
Leader on government engagement scheduling
Supporting the Team Leader and colleagues with team recruitment
Assisting the Team Leader with risk management (e.g. maintenance of risk register)
Organising workshops, project launches and other events
Providing secretariat functions (e.g. to steering committees)
Attending programme meetings and minute as required
Being the focal point for a young consultants’ development project
Job Requirements
Requirements to succeed in this role
Education to degree level, preferably in social science or allied discipline
Previous experience working in a development organisation and/or government department working on humanitarian or development programmes
Strong organisational skills with a problem-solving attitude
Demonstrated experience in project administration and programme coordination
Strong computer skills (especially MS Excel and MS Word) and an ability to use or develop project management and tracking tools
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Amharic
Required competencies
Ability to take initiatives and work without independently
Attention to details, self-confident and good collaboration skills are important in this role
Demonstrate a flexible ‘can-do’ approach to work, willingly flexing between higher and lower-level tasks, as required
