Oxfam NGO Communication Assistants Jobs in Kenya
Contribute to Oxfam in Kenya’s role as an influencing organisation, by maximising the quality and impact of Oxfam’s work and its partner’s programmes through the incorporation of enhanced communications messaging and tools.
In collaboration with the programme team, identifies and develops innovative and effective ways of communicating Oxfam’s experiences and analysis with the broader operating context with the view to facilitate change.
Key Responsibilities
Information and Communication 70%
Liaise with programme and project leads in the documentation of project activities,
milestones and successes in the form of case studies, human-interest stories, video and
photo stories for internal and external dissemination.
Continuously generate new digital media content in form of share graphics, short videos, info graphics, photo stories, Tweets, Facebook posts, website content links etc.
Adopt new digital media trends, tools and innovations that are relevant to Oxfam Kenya’s
work and operating context.
Continuously grow Oxfam Kenya’s offline and online supporters and audience.
Learning and reporting 30%
Continuously monitor and evaluate the communications activities reach and impact and
provide period reports or as requested.
Support in publishing the generated content on the blog, web pages and new and existing
media.
Assist with processing of projects documentation and maintenance of online supporters’ databases.
Support in managing events; branding, registration, live social media engagement, note taking and photography
Logistical coordination on the programme related communications activities.
Technical Skills, and Knowledge
Skills
Professional/Technical qualifications – Undergraduate in Communication related field
(Communication, Journalism or Public Relations).
Demonstrated ability to analyse and communicate complex information to a wide audience including non-technical audiences.
Demonstrated ability to work independenty and as part of a
team, providing support at a range of organsitional levels.
Excellent English language writing skills and a working knowledge of Swahili.
Demonstrated ability to identify and produce compelling human interest stories.
Good computer literacy skills including the use of desktop publishing software.
Photography, video production and editing skills.
Proven influencing, negotiating and interpersonal skills in a range of contexts and for multiple audiences.
Knowledge
Knowledge of the programme context and communications environment in Kenya.
Demonstrable knowledge of communications/media in humanitarian settings.
Expertise in the use of a range of new media tools.
Experience
At least one year experience of working in a communications, public relations or media role, working in development sector is an added advantage.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple, simultaneous projects, to prioritise work and meet deadlines.
A confident communicator with significant experience in representing organisational issues in a strategic manner with a wide range of external actors.
Demonstrated experience of campaign design and the use of social and mass media for
advocacy
