BackgroundCaLP is the global partnership for cash transfer programming in humanitarian assistance. We work with individual organisations to help them increase the scale and quality of cash programming. And we bring organisations together to address the most pressing collective issues for cash.
The East Africa Regional Office in Nairobi engages with members and other stakeholders to promote the scale-up of quality CTP. Its agenda includes advocacy, promoting improved coordination, information sharing, advice, capacity building and strengthening the evidence base for cash. The Regional Office supports work in various country contexts within East Africa.

The CaLP Capacity Building Lead will lead the development of CaLP’s training in the region. With an emphasis on consistently high quality work, s/he will plan, deliver and evaluate training courses and provide support to CaLP members in the delivery of their CaLP affiliated training. While the role has a strong training focus, the post holder will also engage with and support a wider capacity building agenda. This will include planning and facilitating learning events; providing advice and information to organisations engaged in CTP and contributing to the development of learning resources.
The post-holder will contribute to the development of regional and global plans. At times, the post-holder will contribute to the development of funding proposals and will be responsible for generating information to contribute to donor reports. The post holder will ensure compliance with CaLP and donor policies and procedures as relevant to their work.
The post holder will achieve all the above by working closely with the East Africa and Global CaLP teams, engaging with CaLP members and the broader community
of practice. Working with a high degree of autonomy when delivering training, the post holder will maintain a high quality of work and professional standards at all times. The Capacity Building Lead will work with a range of CTP actors, engaging with people with a wide range of backgrounds, experience and seniority.
Responsibility· Develop and roll out agreed training plans, ensuring training work is delivered to a consistently high standard and evaluated to assess its effectiveness.
· Contribute to the review and revision of CaLP training courses, leading the development of specific elements as appropriate.
· Contribute to the development of new information and resources generated by CaLP in East Africa and input to the development of global materials.
· Represent CaLP externally, engaging with a wide range of humanitarian actors in training and other contexts as appropriate.
· Influence the work of CTP actors in East Africa by sharing information, evidence and learning to support improved programming.
Person specification· Substantial work experience in the humanitarian sector, with solid experience of cash transfer programming.
· A degree level education
· Experience of working as a trainer, with adult learners, facilitating training and learning events.
· Excellent interpersonal skills to lead and develop others and to influence and negotiate with diverse stakeholders.
· Demonstrable ability to communicate effectively, articulating complex and sometimes competing ideas and experiences simply as well as navigating language barriers and cultural differences sensitively.
· High level of energy and creativity.
· Self-starter, able to work in a small team in East Africa and remotely with CaLP’s geographically-dispersed, multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary team.
· Strong English language skills – verbal, oral and written.
· Right to work in Kenya.
