Oxfam has an Emergency and Preparedness Response mechanism responding in hard-to-reach areas responding to critical humanitarian and protection needs.
The aim the Protection Team is to ensure Oxfam has the management, technical and logistical capacity to both scale up and to respond rapidly to major humanitarian emergencies anywhere in the world.

The Role
Provide support for the delivery of safe programming in humanitarian and development programmes and integrate basic protection activities into humanitarian responses as appropriate
Advise on community based protection programming, including mobilizing, capacity building, and programme development in the field programme
Strengthen the humanitarian and development team’s capacity to meet protection and gender minimum standards
Provide ongoing strategic protection analysis (including aspects of conflict analysis, gender, and risk management) and lessons from programme experience to inform programme development, implementation and policy/advocacy work
Support capacity-building on protection issues for Oxfam staff and partners in the field, linking with national, regional and humanitarian department capacity-building initiatives
Support MEAL processes and activities to integrate gender and protection, and to gather lessons relating to these areas
Represent Oxfam in coordination meetings and some external relationships
The post holder will be expected to undertake regular travel in the country and region
Requirements
Strong conceptual and practical understanding of
protection issues and approaches in both humanitarian development contexts, including the constraints, sensitivities and risks associated with such work
Proven involvement in humanitarian response work, preferably in a humanitarian or protection role in conflict or insecure environments
Proven experience in the provision of protection technical advice and support to field programs, and skills in staff and partner development, mentoring, and training
Strong understanding of protection standards, key sectoral issues and processes including advocacy for protection
Demonstrable understanding of the gender dynamics of protection work and ability to implement protection activities with an emphasis on the gendered aspects of conflict, violence and abuse
Excellent influencing and negotiation skills. The ability to work independently as well work as a team player – supporting other departments is essential
Solid understanding of monitoring and learning processes
Proven analytical skills and strategic thinking, ability to apply professional and ethical standards to data collection and analysis processes, and research
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including high-level interpersonal, influencing, negotiation and representational capabilities. Fluency in written and spoken English essential
Knowledge of and experience in the South Sudan context
Understanding of Oxfam’s approach to and role in protection work including advocacy and campaigning (Desirable)
Arabic language skills would be well regarded (Desirable)
Experience in participatory research and community based programming (Desirable)
