About the OSC

The Organisation of Southern Cooperation (OSC) is an international intergovernmental organisation, founded in January 2020 by countries from across the Global South, to contribute to the equitable, just, and prosperous social transformation of societies by promoting balanced and inclusive education, in order to attain the fundamental rights to liberty, justice, dignity, sustainability, social cohesion, and material and immaterial security for the peoples of the world.

The OSC acts, therefore, as an instrument of intellectual, technical and financial cooperation and solidarity between its Member States as well as its Associate Members, from the South, by the South, and for the entirety of Humanity.

Purpose & Objective

The Translator/Interpreter roster is designed to help the OSC evaluate and secure expert translation support. The goal is to ensure access to high-quality, accurate, and timely services from professional consultants for the Documentation, Translation, and Interpretation (DTI) Unit of GAM.Consultants on this roster will be contacted as needed to translate OSC materials.

Duties

Translate various types of content (such as correspondence, reports, programs, website content, news articles, etc.) from English into French, Spanish, Arabic, or Portuguese, ensuring cultural appropriateness and conciseness.

Maintain consistency with other translators working on the same projects.

Utilise appropriate terminology and assist in identifying new terms when necessary in the target language.

Contribute to improving and expanding the organisation's internal translation memory for accurate and consistent translations..

Demonstrated ability to independently review and revise translations to ensure accuracy, clarity, and consistency. Skilled in identifying and correcting errors, improving language flow, and ensuring the final translation meets quality standards.

Meeting deadlines and delivering high-quality translation services are crucial to the OSC.

Perform additional translation tasks as required.

Qualifications

This role is open to both

individual consultants and company consultants.

A Bachelor's degree in Translation and/or Interpreting from a recognized university (certificates required) is essential.

A Master's degree in Translation and/or Interpreting is advantageous.

Additional qualifications in fields such as Political Science, International Relations, Law, Economics, or other relevant Social Sciences are also beneficial.

Experience & Competencies :

Candidates must have at least five years of experience in the translation and/or interpretation industry (English to French, Spanish, Arabic, or Portuguese).

At least 4 years of experience in translation and/or interpretation.

Familiarity with OSC key concepts and terminology, as well as experience in an international intergovernmental organisation, is advantageous.

Excellent writing skills in English and French/Spanish/Arabic/Portuguese.

Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in teams.

Strong attention to detail.

Proven ability to produce high-quality work under tight deadlines, with superior communication and interpersonal skills.

Excellent time management and ability to work under pressure.

Commitment to maintaining information confidentiality.

Proficiency in using Computer Assisted Translation tools, preferably SDL Trados, Wordfast Pro, or SmartCat.

Exceptional patience and tenacity.
