The Grants Lead will design, coordinate and oversee the implementation of the programme to provide small grants to grassroots organisations working to end FGM.

The Grants Lead delivers the design and implementation of the grants scheme, and will oversee grant applications, due diligence, contract compliance, grantee relationship, capacity building for grantees, reporting and outcome measurement.

Responsibilities:

The Grants Lead delivers the grants scheme, managing the design of a robust, adaptive, and secure granting mechanism focused on a range of countries in Africa. The Grants Lead will oversee a Grants Manager (based in Nairobi) and work closely with in-country staff to deliver the grants programme.

Core responsibilities include:

  • Manage the establishment of the grant programme scheme based on recommendations from best practice
  • Development and implementation of programmatic and financial processes for the selection, contracting and monitoring of the grants.
  • Oversee and manage day-to-day implementation of the grants programme
  • Development and implementation of capacity building strategy for grassroots grantees
  • Monitoring and Evaluation of grants and client reporting
  • Ensure that all work is aligned with the programme’s Do No Harm and Safeguarding guidance

    Person specification:

  • Significant experience in managing programmes and grants, with a proven track record in disbursing grants directly to grassroots organisations in remote and diverse contexts, across a multi-country programme
  • Proven experience in designing robust granting mechanisms from inception
  • Significant financial management experience, as well as budgeting, work planning, and fraud prevention and management
  • Experience in designing and coordinating delivery of grassroots capacity building
    plans
  • Proven experience in risk and change management
  • Experience of contracts and contracting
  • Experience in Monitoring and Evaluation
  • Demonstrated awareness of safeguarding and do not harm principles
  • Experience in developing and managing contracts and compliance matters
  • Excellent financial management skills
  • Knowledge or experience of FGM and/or broader gender issues would be an advantage
  • Fluency in English; working proficiency in
  • French desirable
  • Right to live and work in Kenya
