Open Call for Career Training Program for Young People



The Student Energy is pleased to announce the applications for the Career Training Program.

A 4 month cohort-based program aimed at young people (18-30) who are interested in pursuing a career that advances the energy transition.

The program equips youth with the technical, dynamic and durable skills necessary for them to land an internship or entry-level role in the energy sector. The program develops project management, data analytics, interdisciplinary teamwork and leadership through hands-on learning experiences.

The course will offer a comprehensive introduction to the current energy system, decarbonization pathways, energy economics and policy. The core value of the program is to support young people with applied skills training related to managing and executing a project on a real-world energy problem.

General modules 40-Hour Time Commitment

  • Month 1 will cover training and foundational modules on energy and project management to aid you throughout the program. All program participants will complete the general modules.

  • Energy system 101

  • Model thinking

  • Energy career paths

  • Project management.

    Practicum Project 120-Hour Total Time Commitment

    Months 2 through 4 will cover completing deliverables from the Practicum Project from partner organizations. You will be expected to spend a total of 5 hours per week (a total of 60 hours) managing and executing your respective partner project. Partner projects fall into 2 categories:

  • Energy policy analysis

  • Energy market analysis

    Outcomes for Stakeholders

  • SECT program
    participants will gain:
    SECT Certification outlining achievements throughout the program.

  • Experience working on real-world projects sourced from partner companies related to developing and deploying infrastructure for the energy transition.

  • Technical energy knowledge and project management skills for distributed teamwork.

  • Leadership skills required for future work in the rapidly evolving energy transition.

  • Access to expert mentorship and guidance from Student Energy staff and global energy leaders.

  • Expand professional networks by building relationships with cohort and partner companies.

  • Curated curriculum with resources and training relevant to their respective projects.

  • Acceptance into Student Energy’s Alumni community with access to a vast network of over 50,000 young energy leaders worldwide and future Student Energy programming.

    SECT partner organizations will gain:

  • A team of highly-motivated students, each dedicating ~10 hours/week toward tackling a real challenge your organization faces.

  • Practical and innovative youth-led solutions to future-proof your organization.

  • Outsourcing of training and mentorship of this talent pipeline for entry-level internship positions.

    Selection Criteria

  • Successful applicants will need to show the following critical characteristics in their application: Ability to work in a diverse team environment, ability to work remotely, commitment to the program timeline, interest in specialization areas, ability to demonstrate how they hope this program will impact their careers.
