One Acre Fund Field Operation Project Specialist Jobs in Uganda
ResponsibilitiesRepayment Strategy Development This is one of our core activities, ensuring we collect 100% of loans form every client and group we work with and includes various projects and focuses.
Key Performance Analysis: Working through our data to detect trends and leading analysis sessions with our Field Leaders, developing key targets, plans and calendars throughout the season.
Incentive management throughout the season, from conception through procurement and delivery.
Bonus structure: Support the development of Field Team bonus structure in conjunction with the wider Field Operations Leadership, collating data and analyzing trends in in order to roll out a sound and effective model.
Contingency Planning: Development of repayment contingency plans for the final leg of repayment every season to create a frameworks to handle potential scenarios.
Training Development: Leading role in the creation of tools and trainings to be delivered to our Field Team and our clients alike
Qualifications
Experience in rural or national development, especially in smallholder agriculture or rural economics.
Strong work experiences. Examples include a demanding professional work experience, or successful entrepreneurial experience (e.g. leading a conference, starting a business, solid Peace Corps accomplishments).
Leadership experience at work, or outside of work
Creative problem-solving and/or product development skills. Demanding professional work experience or successful entrepreneurial experience can be applicable.
Strong undergraduate background at top East African University or international University. Degrees in business, community development, or related fields preferred. Leadership experience within or outside of work.
Applicants are expected to have strong data analysis skills in Excel and other professional programs.

Responsibilities
Field Expansion Scouting and Statistical Analysis: You will support the Field Operations Team in selecting new high growth, high impact regions for expansion; scouting these on the ground and collecting both farmer and regional agro-economic data; complementing internal data with appropriate desktop research and data from external sources and stakeholders; and statistically analyzing and synthesizing this into actionable insights and criteria to inform high impact expansion decisions for the program. Applicants will be comfortable with extensive data collection, number crunching and interrogation; will have strong analytical and statistical proficiency in Excel or similar analytics software. Knowledge or familiarity with R programming, STATA or Geographic Information Systems (GIS) packages/software and applications will be an added bonus.
Expansion Infrastructure & Stakeholder Relations: You will identify, locate and set up the requisite infrastructure needed to operate the program successfully in new expansion areas. You will also initiate and build strong stakeholder relationships in new program areas to facilitate strong, mutually productive relationships and synergies with existing stakeholders.
Farmer Field Demonstration Programs and Innovations Trials: You will organize, enroll, and manage field farmer Demonstration Programs and Innovations Trials (typically 3-4 months long at a time, with 100 – 200 farmers) in new districts or regions from scratch, to showcase the value proposition and methodology of the program. You will hire and manage a team of Trial Agents to train and follow up with farmers on agricultural best practices over the course of these demo programs.
Expansion Field Operations Team Hiring and Training: You will identify, hire and train a wider team of Field Officers and Field Managers
in the working processes and systems of the program. You will see to it that they attain fluency in how the program conducts field operations and how it works with farmers week-in week-out across the agricultural calendar, in preparation to run operations in new program districts or regions.
Qualifications
Strong work experiences conducting analytical work, quantitative research or geospatial analysis in the agricultural sector. Former agricultural practitioners with a statistical or data orientation, geospatial or GIS analysts, or field agricultural analysts are encouraged to apply.
Degree or combination of degree level academic training and experience in the fields of Agronomy, Agriculture, Agricultural Engineering, Agricultural Economics, Economics, Natural and Conservation Sciences, Applied Mathematics, Statistics or similar.
Applicants are expected to have strong proficiency in data collection and analytics, and strong analytical and statistical skills in Excel and/or similar analytics software. Familiarity with R programming, STATA, or knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) packages/software and applications will be an added bonus.
Applicants will have some practical experience managing or working with farmer agricultural extension or large farmer groups, and will have an entrepreneurial “can do” savvy and outlook in minimal resource environments. Ability to set up things from scratch.
Ability to explain technical concepts in plain English.

Responsibilities
Field Operations/Expansion Support: A Project Specialist may begin their tenure in Field Operations providing mentorship to our Field Director and Field Manager and developing trainings that are delivered to our field staff and farmers. A Project Specialist may also be asked to scout new districts or parishes and launch a demo program for farmers unfamiliar with One Acre Fund
Finance & Operations: A Project Specialist with a background or interest in Finance & Operations may work with our HQ staff on improving & managing our finance, procurement, logistics or HR teams. A PS will likely take on wide ranging department responsibilities to ensure OAF Uganda’s operations run smoothly and are on track for continuous growth
Monitoring & Evaluation: A Project Specialist w/a strong background in M&E may join/lead our M&E department by managing a team of enumerators to run surveys assessing our impact and other critical indicators.
Qualifications
Work Experience: Candidates should have 2-5 years of strong work experiences, including project management, team management, or entrepreneurial experiences. Some examples of strong work experiences include: starting/managing a business or a new initiative, launching new products for a company, organizing a conference, managing a department etc.
Leadership: We are looking for candidates with demonstrated leadership experience at work, or outside of work. Examples of demonstrated leadership experience include managing a team or initiating a new project.
Education: Strong undergraduate background at top East African university or international university. If you are interested in specific roles (such as Finance or M&E), please highlight relevant educational background to succeed in those positions.
Communication: Excellent written and oral communication.
Attitude:
This is absolutely critical for any individual wishing to join the Uganda team.
Rural Fit. A willingness to commit to living in Jinja w/travel throughout Uganda for at least two years.
Other Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Intermediate or better typing speed.
Language: English required. Knowledge of Luganda, Lusoga or other Ugandan languages strongly preferred.
