One Acre Fund Client Protection and Risk Management Associate Career Opportunities in Kenya

Responsibilities

  • Setting priorities and monitoring progress Working with Enterprise Risk Director and key stakeholders to set client protection goals and priority work streams
  • Updating client protection cross-country dashboard and key performance indicators
  • Leading bi-annual assessment of our performance on client protection policies and service provision for senior leadership
  • Implementing improvements
  • Targeting problem areas and institutional risks related to client protection; spearheading policy and/or process changes to address gaps
  • Coordinating rollout of new policies and trainings across multiple countries; will involve
  • 25%+ travel to other countries in the first year
  • Convening working groups and cross-country meetings to share knowledge and information and address client protection issues
  • Establishing strong audit and compliance processes
  • Working with field and support teams toestablish audit, escalation and resolution processes that maximize compliance with client protection policies and standards.
  • Supporting the Enterprise Risk Director on other risk areas including:
  • Helping to update the organization risk dashboard
  • Coordinating with risk managers to ensure risk strategies are implemented
  • Helping to create processes for efficient risk management

    Qualifications

  • We are seeking an exceptional professional with 2+ years of work experience and a demonstrated passion for international development, client protection and microfinance.
  • Strong familiarity with the microfinance and/or social business sectors; previous experience serving microfinance clients or in a client protection or risk management role preferred.
  • Ability to synthesize large amounts of information and data, identify trends across multiple countries, and prioritize key takeaways and actions.
  • Detail-oriented, with superb organizational, planning, and time-management skills.
  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills; good ability to manage relationships with a number of stakeholders and teams across multiple countries.
  • Top-performing academic background.
  • Advanced MS Office skills.
  • Humility.
  • A willingness to commit to living in rural areas of East Africa for at least two years – this is a long-term, career-track role.
  • The ideal candidate will have at least one year demonstrated experience working in the developing world, although this is not a strict requirement.
  • Language: fluency in English required.

    One Acre Fund New Country Scout Career Opportunities in Kenya

    The New Country Scout will:

  • Spend 3-6 months training on the core One Acre Fund program model in Kenya or Rwanda.
  • Move to a new country, where they will either begin a pilot from scratch, or expand an existing pilot.
  • Core operating duties will include:
  • Hiring and training 3-8 initial trial staff.
  • Engaging local government officials and sensitizing them to our program.
  • Handling initial recruitment of 100-300 farmers.
  • External networking will include:
  • Purchase of seed, fertilizer, and other farm inputs from local vendors.
  • Making contact with local horticultural support.
  • The new country scout wil also set up our initial office. This may include:
  • Handling legal registration.
  • Finding/hiring of office and housing.
  • Initial equipment purchases.
  • Creation of well-functioning finance and accounting operation with proper financial controls.
  • The end goal will be to validate the country as a possible area of operation for One Acre Fund.
  • If scouting is successful, the organization will proceed to grow our core program there to a goal scale of 10,000+ farmers and 100+ staff within two additional years.
  • This would be staffed either by an experienced manager from one of our existing countries, or possibly the new country scout can grow into this role.

    One Acre Fund Agronomist Career Opportunities in Kenya

    Responsibilities:

  • Conducting early stage agricultural research on new innovations: conducting literature reviews, continually tracking agricultural research developments globally, and preparing memos to synthesize knowledge and inform trial and program decisions.
  • Managing all research station trials: identifying research priorities, developing trial strategies each season, and managing multiple teams across five research stations conducting experimental trials in Kenya
  • Building and managing relationships with experts: reaching out to other experts at universities and research institutions to help guide our agricultural research strategy and ensure we are pursuing the most promising innovations.
  • Providing technical inputs and guidance: serving as a major source of technical knowledge about agriculture to help inform key decisions for the Product Innovations department and the Kenya country program more broadly.
  • Staff mentorship: supporting all staff members working on agricultural trials to develop their technical knowledge, research and data analysis capacity, and leadership and management skills.

    Qualifications

  • Advanced academic training in an agricultural field such as soil science, with a PhD and previous field trial experience in a smallholder farming context strongly preferred.
  • Strong work experiences. Examples include a demanding professional work experience, or successful entrepreneurial experience, e.g. starting a field program in a developing country, leading a conference, starting a business, solid Volunteer Service Organization accomplishments (VSO, Peace Corps, JICA, etc).
  • Advanced data analysis knowledge, with training in statistics and experience working with R strongly preferred.
  • Leadership experience at work, or outside of work.
  • Top-performing undergraduate background (include final grade/marks/GPA).
