Job Description

The Company seeks to hire Banksmen responsible for directing the movement of vehicles and plant on or around a site by ensuring safety during crane rigging, lifting and slinging.

Responsibilities

• Ensures the correct lifting accessories are in good condition and will not be damaged during the lift. Returning accessories in good order.

• Maintains and accounts for Lifting and lashing accessories and all are accounted for.

• Ensures there are no potential snagging points or personnel in the vicinity of the load and tag lines while hoisting, moving and lowering loads by checking above to ensure that the crane’s hoist wire rope, boom tip, and hook block assembly attachments have a clear unobstructed passage.

• Recommends and lays out safe, on-site traffic systems.

• Provides clear, correct and safe directions to plant operators.

• Communicates with drivers and plant operators verbally and by radio and/or industry standard hand signals.

• Ensures loads and Lifting Equipment do not contact any obstructions.

• Ensures the correct lifting accessories are in good condition and will not be damaged during the lift.

• Continuously monitors lifting operations to retain an overview at all times.

• Controls the load in the air using tag lines where appropriate.

• Assists in manual loading of vehicles and securing of loads on vehicles under the direction of site supervisor.

• Guides and assists the crane operator in the reversing of a crane by ensuring essential smooth flow of trucks when on-loading and off-loading of cargo.

• Knows the basics of rigging procedures and ensure that they are applied appropriately especially during blind lifts and tandem lifts.

• Ensures the crane is clean and all lifting accessories are stored correctly in a neat and tidy manner.

• Maintain Safe Operations by achieving Accident Rate of Zero Accidents.

• Maintain Safe Operations by achieving 100% adherence to Safety requirements and procedures.

Qualifications

• Post High school relevant certification

• Certificate in Mechanic/Grade tests or equivalent qualifications

• Must pass or possess the Relevant Industry Certification(BS 7121)

• Must be a Ugandan citizen

Must pass the Mandatory eye test and Fitness to work

Experience

• Experience in safe operations of relevant Equipment

• At least 3years experience as a Banksman/Slinger.
