Job Responsibilities
Install, assemble and test new machines and equipment; understand and comply with workplace safety regulations.
Inspect machines regularly for signs of malfunctions, including visual inspections, listening for irregular noises and conducting scheduled testing as appropriate.
Monitor, identify and respond promptly to signs of malfunction in machinery such as changes in performance, temperature fluctuations, sounds, smells or atypical energy usage; perform troubleshooting for production machinery.
Communicates clearly and effectively with others to describe the problem and solution involved in particular maintenance requests.
Can respond quickly and calmly to emergency requests.
Is capable of adapting repair skills and mechanical knowledge to a wide range of different requests.
Exhibits solid time management skills.
Demonstrates familiarity with site safety precautions.
Works well with a team & pays close attention to detail.
Schedule and perform routine preventative maintenance and service for each piece of equipment.
Perform emergency repairs on various types of machinery, including mechanical, electric and hydraulic; identify and replace worn or damaged parts in a timely manner.
Maintain machinery and the adjacent workplace in a state of appropriate cleanliness; create and maintain a schedule for inspection, service and testing of machinery.
Read and comply with work orders concerning service, modification or installation of machinery.
Work effectively with other team members in a loud environment.
Manage all on-site installation, maintenance, repairs and testing tasks to ensure proper documentation of all related processes.
Diagnose errors and technical problems and determine proper solutions to produce timely and detailed service reports.
Collaborate with the technical team and share information across the organization to build positive relationships with production team and coworkers.
Satisfy production needs by making appropriate recommendations and briefings using appropriate field automation systems, procedures, and protocols.
Establish assistance by studying system requirements, including ordering and gathering essential components and parts, completing the maintenance on time, and performing quality service.
Maintain production satisfaction by using creativity and ingenuity to investigate complaints, identify resolutions, suggest enhanced operating techniques, and recommend system improvements.
Receiving work orders from production department, planning a daily maintenance schedule, reviewing concerns, conducting tests, and resolving problems by giving priorities.
Inspect, maintain and repair production
equipment and machinery to ensure they’re always in proper working conditions
Test and observe equipment and machinery daily bases using proper tools and other testing devices to diagnose malfunctions and make repairs as needed.
Care for machinery and equipment by cleaning them after use, adjusting parts and lubricating moving components as needed to ensure proper, efficient function daily bases.
Examine machinery parts on a daily, weekly and monthly basis for signs of excessive wear, defects and damage.
Record all maintenance and repair services performed, and keep track of all materials and parts used during the repair process.
Order or request orders to be placed to replenish materials and parts when inventory grows low or is depleted.
Study manufacturer manuals and blueprints and carefully follow directions when operating or setting up newly-acquired machinery.
Cut and weld metal pieces together as needed to fabricate new parts, assemble equipment or repair broken parts as needed.
Duties of a mechanic include
Carrying out maintenance on mechanical systems and equipment
Performing periodic inspections on plant, machinery and greenhouse structure systems
Scheduling planned and preventive maintenance work
Ensuring that machinery and equipment are kept in good working order
Ensuring that machinery and equipment meets safety regulations
Intervening immediately in the event of breakdowns, failures or malfunctions
Repairing and/or replacing broken or defective mechanical parts
Checking repaired components and machinery to ensure normal functionality has been restored
Documenting maintenance activities
Work Environment
Work may be conducted either inside or outside according to maintenance requests.
Temperatures will be variable according to season and specific work site.
Time will be spent in workshop depending on the company and nature of the repair request.
Minor travel from the farm / local site to another may be required.
Tasks may involve moderate to heavy physical labor.
Walking, climbing, standing, sitting, and lifting are required.
Job Requirements
Required Education and Experience
Strong mechanical and manufacturing experience
Ability to walk, stand, and lift heavy objects for an extended amount of time
Ability to act competently in emergencies
Organized and detail-oriented
High-level ability to test, troubleshoot, service, and repair automated equipment
Ability to adapt to dynamic work schedules and flexible shifts
Technical diploma/degree or certification, TVET Level 4 and above
Experience in maintenance field or mechanical repair work.
Awareness of chemical, health and safety issues
Knowledge of how mechanical systems and equipment work
Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and electrical schemes
Manual skills necessary to carry out maintenance operations
Analytical and problem-solving skills
Communication skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Ability to intervene promptly and efficiently, where required
