Job SummaryThe primary responsibility of the Cashier is to accurately handle cash register transactions
Qualifications
Course work in bookkeeping/ hospitality management
Previous experience as a cashier in hospitality industry
Sound knowledge of cash management principles and account balancing.
Knowledge of accounting, bookkeeping and mathematics for data entry assignments.
Expert in processing all types of payment methods such as credit cards, checks and cash
Exceptional customer service skills
Multitasking without losing focus – Can deal with constant interruptions from customers and work under pressure
Good communication skills
Good manners in professional telephone conversation
Good problem solving attitude.
Responsibilities
To be accountable for all cash transactions carried out in the restaurant
Count money in cash drawers at the beginning of shifts to ensure that amounts are correct and that there is adequate change.
To maintain the pre-determined float in the cash drawer at all times
To ensure proper handover of float and drop in of cash at the end of shift as set by management
To maintain all cash registers and ensure that that they are in proper working order
Receive payment by cash, credit cards, vouchers, or automatic debits.
Close outstanding food and beverage bills by accepting payment from the servers. Issue receipts, or change due to customers
To adhere to discounting policies as laid down by the management
To scrutinize that all credit checks have been properly signed and the room numbers indicated
To ensure prompt delivery of credit checks to the front office cashier for timely posting
To aalways answer the phone politely using a friendly tone and being informative
To maintain reservations and allocate tables in the absence of the hostess
To welcome guests to the restaurant in an appropriately warm and courteous manner and escort them to their tables, seat the guests and introduce the station waiter/ess and where necessary present the menu/drink list in the absence of the hostess
To assist in the cleaning, polishing, storage and distribution of any equipment needed for the smooth running of the restaurant operation
To participate in any training/development schemes required by management
Job Requirements
Required education: Diploma, Associate's degree
Required relevant work experience: 2 years
