Job Description

Fairbairn Consult (FC) is a fast growing RFA (non-tied financial advisory business) that is part of the Old Mutual Group. We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Commercial Manager to join our reputable and growing financial advisory business. As a Commercial Manager, you will play a pivotal role in driving the commercial success of the organization by overseeing and optimizing key business functions. This role requires a strategic thinker with a strong understanding of financial markets, excellent negotiation skills, and a proven track record in business development.

Responsibilities:

Business Development

  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities to expand the advisor and client bases and revenue streams.

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with advisors, clients, partners, and stakeholders.

  • Analyze market trends and competitor activity to inform business strategy.

  • Assist advisors to grow their businesses through acquisition.

  • Assist advisors to implement succession plans.

    Financial Analysis and Planning

  • Conduct financial analysis to assess the profitability and viability of potential projects.

  • Collaborate with the finance team to develop budgets and financial forecasts.

  • Monitor financial performance and implement strategies to enhance profitability.

    Contract Negotiation and Management

  • Lead negotiations with clients, suppliers, distribution partners and product providers ensuring favourable terms and conditions.

  • Draft, review, and manage contracts, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.

  • Work closely with legal and compliance teams to mitigate risks associated with contracts.

    Team Leadership and Collaboration

  • Provide leadership and direction to the FC head office team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.

  • Collaborate with other departments, such as marketing, operations, and legal, to achieve overall business objectives.

  • Contribute to regular performance reviews and professional development
    for team members.

    Advisor and client Relationship Management:

  • Act as a key point of contact for our advisors and clients, addressing their needs and concerns.

  • Ensure high levels of advisor and client satisfaction through effective communication and service delivery.

  • Proactively identify opportunities to upsell or cross-sell services to existing clients.

    Requirements (must meet all of the following):

  • Relevant commercial postgraduate qualification such as CA(SA) or MBA

  • Relevant financial planning qualification

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in the broker industry, both in Retail and Institutional businesses

  • At least 5 years experience in a senior management role

  • In depth knowledge of financial markets, investment and risk products, and industry regulations

  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills

  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills

  • Despite your relevant experience, you must be willing to learn

  • Proven business acumen to grow the business, with own network within the industry

  • Proven ability to work within a small team

  • Can coach and mentor more junior member of the team

  • Can engage a diverse group of financial advisors on all aspects of their practices
