Background

Through its Nutrition Technical Assistance Mechanism (NTEAM), Nutrition International shares its expertise globally to support the scale-up of nutrition for the most vulnerable. NTEAM provides timely and coordinated expert technical assistance (TA) to countries and agencies; encourages broad use of knowledge by translating technical information and research into accessible guidance, tools and resources; and convenes global experts to tackle key nutrition issues.

Overall Accountability and Function

The Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) Officer will primarily support the effective development and implementation of the monitoring, evaluation and reporting processes for NI-TAN.

Key activities of the MEL Officer include providing expert advice and support on project monitoring, evaluation and reporting; helping capture learnings from this work for ongoing necessary internal improvements.

The MEL officer will also:

  • Manage the capacity development of staff from across the organization in MEL processes
  • Provide technical support to headquarters and regional teams, ensuring they have a good understanding of MEL processes
  • Lead the impact evaluation process and other programmatic evaluations, incorporating learning from the sector and project to-date, to ensure high quality processes
  • Support all necessary internal and donor reporting on project objectives and targets.
  • The MEL Officer will be responsible to ensure that all necessary project monitoring systems are developed/strengthened and data is collected, tracked, organized and analyzed to accurately inform project monitoring and other learning products in close collaboration with all TAN staff and consultants.
  • Regular maintenance and ongoing improvements to monitoring and data management systems and tracking tools will be an integral component of the MEL Officer duties.
  • The MEL Officer will lead work on TA Impact Assessments, in close coordination with TAN staff and TA stakeholders, and provide necessary support for any project evaluations.
  • The MEL Officer will also support development of capacity building information and tracking tools in support of improved TA delivery by consultants where necessary.

    Education/Professional Designations/Experience:
  • University degree
    in a related social science field and/or statistics, etc.)
  • A minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in monitoring, evaluation data analysis, project management and/or managing program activities, including experience in planning and reporting processes, and conducting impact assessments
  • Strong working knowledge of excel and key statistical analysis software; ability to make recommendations for improvements to current monitoring systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate results into easy to understand materials and reporting, with data visualization expertise an advantage.
  • Experience in international development / public health/ nutrition program monitoring and reporting, with DFID experience an advantage

    Language Skills:
  • Superior communications skills (verbal and written).
  • Fluency in English - both reading and writing – is essential
  • Fluency in French - both reading and writing – is highly preferred, and considered an asset

  • Must currently be eligible to work in Kenya.
