NTLD Laboratory Technologist Jobs in Kenya
Ministry of Health through the National Tuberculosis, Leprosy and Lung Disease
Program (NTLD-P) is seeking to fill the position of Laboratory Technologist.
This position is was approved to be filled under the current Global fund grant, which
will run for three and half years starting FY 2018 to 2021.
NTLD-P is mandated to develop policies that govern the control of TB, Leprosy
and Lung Diseases in Kenya, Tuberculosis surveillance being one of them. This
includes coordination of services towards the diagnosis and treatment of TB.
The successful candidate will support TB surveillance work for culture and drug
susceptibility testing. She/ he will be responsible for all the TB samples in the
designed region.
Duties and responsibilities:
Ensure quality procedures are maintained in the pre-analytical, analytical and post-analytical phases of specimens collection and processing
Perform quality assurance and quality control in the laboratory.
Perform calibration, standardization and routine preventive maintenance on various laboratory instruments in accordance with the established procedures, protocols and schedules as applicable
Participate in internal and external quality assurance programs.
Review test results for accuracy and consistency, correlating results with
patients’ conditions and notify appropriate health professional in the event
of Critical/Panic Values
Prepare samples for storage and maintain specimen inventory.
Establish and maintain systems for implementation of laboratory activities:
Planning introduction of new diagnostic procedures, monitoring and evaluation.
Participate in development and review of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Development of biosafety program in the laboratory.
Implementation of commodity management practices to ensure regular and consistent supply of equipment and laboratory consumables.
Maintain electronic and hard copies of all laboratory records.
Qualifications
A diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences from a recognized institution. A Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences will be an added advantage.
Must have at least two years working experience preferably in TB related work.
Be registered by the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technologists and
Technicians Board (KMLTTB).
Skills and Abilities:
Must be knowledgeable on TB
Must have at least basic knowledge of Quality Management Systems
Be proficient in using a computer and Microsoft office (especially MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
Must have good communication skills.
Ability to work well in a team and collaborate well with Ministry of Health
officers and other partners.
Be willing to work long hours in a high patient volume facility.
Preparation of monthly and quarterly reports on activities undertaken in the laboratory.
Compile reports of duties assigned to him/her by the Laboratory Manager.
