Years of conflict and insecurity in South Sudan have resulted in one of the world’s worst and most protracted humanitarian contexts.
NRC’s programme has grown in recent years to combine both emergency response and recovery programming, with a budget of $22 million and a team of 350 staff (including 20 International) operating from three large area offices and managed from the country office in Juba.
In addition to delivering humanitarian response and seeking new routes to greater, more sustainable impact, NRC’s South Sudan programme has built a strong reputation for humanitarian analysis and advocacy and seeks to build both arms of this programme over the coming years.
It is with this premise that NRC South Sudan is seeking candidates for the role of Area Programme Manager - Jonglei. The ideal candidate shoud be hands-on and innovative to want to do things differently in the field as well as one who is passionate about this role and their work to go beyond the call of duty.
Specific Responsibilities
Deputize AM when needed
Responsible for conflict-sensitive, emergency, development and integrated programming
Ensue beneficiaries led design and implementation of projects and activities including beneficiary complaints mechanism are strengthened
In liaison with the Programme Development Unit, ensure that systems for monitoring and evaluating project activities are developed and implemented
Develop relationships with donor teams and agencies in the area, and contribute to securing sufficient finances for the programme
Coordinate with UN agencies, other (I)NGOs, local and state authorities, the targeted beneficiaries and donors and ensure maximum collaboration and cooperation with all key stakeholders
Guided by guidelines and direction of NRC selection, capacity building and close monitoring of the Implementing Partners and ensure compliance
Undertake any other duties assigned by the Area Manager when assigned
Responsible for the Core Competency (CC) programmatic input to the contingency plan
Representation in sectorial coordination, clusters and/or working group
With the support of the CC Coordinators, lead the proposal development process for new funding opportunities with closely coordination of the CC Specialists and Grant Unit.
Professional competencies
Minimum of 5 years’ experience of working as a Senior Manager/Country Director in humanitarian/recovery context
Experience of working in complex and volatile contexts
Documented/proven results related to the position’s responsibilities
Knowledge about own leadership skills/profile
Fluency in English, both written and verbal
