Nova Pioneer is looking for a superstar School Chef for our Tatu Day School willing and ready to start in January 2023.

This is an opportunity to be a part of an innovative network of schools that is developing generations of innovators and leaders who shape the African Century.

You will be responsible for running an efficient kitchen producing a diversity of menus and good, nutritional food for our students, take the role of duty cook as required which involves taking charge of the kitchen work within an agreed food budget and maintain kitchen safety and hygiene.

About the Role

Key Responsibilities

Daily Hygiene and cleanliness of the kitchen and prep kitchen

Food Safety champion in the department by influencing and adhering to the applicable procedures

Meals preparations and service

Meals service to students and teammates including residence teammates meals service

Liaise between Dean of Students and School Nurse handling students with special dietary requirements as the food allergy policy.

Meals feedback review and action

Conduct weekly workplace safety Inspections

Lead weekly teammates meetings

Verify Meals quantity served to students and

teammates

Monitor weekly stock take of food service equipment

About You

Skills and Qualifications

Certificate in Food production or equivalent certificate in Hospitality

Valid Vaccination certificate

Four years working experience in a school kitchen will be an added advantage

Computer literate MS Excel, MS Word

You are a strong team player with excellent interpersonal skills.

You are able to work well and meet strict deadlines with minimum supervision.

You have excellent communication skills, both oral and written.

There are a series of stages in the Nova Pioneer interview process and candidates will be moved forward in the process depending on their success in the previous stage.

The Process is as Follows:

Phone interview: a short conversation to understand your skills and experience a little better.

Practical demonstration of what you can do: you will complete a written task or a demonstration related to the role you are applying for.

Teachers participate in a half-day selection day at one of our campuses as well as deliver a lesson to a class.

In-person interviews: at this point, you will visit one of our schools to meet the team and participate in a series of in-person interviews.

Final interview: you’ll have a final conversation with the hiring manager before decisions are made.
