NRC in Ethiopia is looking for a Protection Adviser to strengthen protection in NRC’s programmes and response in Ethiopia.

The Protection Adviser will provide specialist expertise and is responsible for strategic advice, programme development, technical support and capacity building to country and programme management on protection.

The Protection Adviser will develop strong working relationships with NRC field, programme and management teams and external protection actors.

Job description

  • Lead on development of the protection strategy and relevant SOPs, and strengthen NRCs protection response in Ethiopia.
  • Lead on programme and proposal development for integrated or stand-alone protection projects in Ethiopia.
  • Lead on regular protection analysis, identifying protection issues and gaps,as well as opportunities
  • Contribute to the development of tools and methodologies to better integrate cross-cutting issues and prioritised development areas into protection programmes.
  • Help design and deliver capacity building activities to build the capacity of field staff to understand and deliver safe programming
  • Responsible for networking and representation of NRC for protection related issues at strategic level
  • Contribute to the identification, development and maintenance of relationships with relevant stakeholders in Ethiopia (e.g. donors, UN agencies, NGOs, research- and educational institutions, private sector) related to protection.
  • Contribute to the development and facilitate the use of effective assessment and M&E systems in Ethiopia.
  • Contribute to the identification, prioritization, development and documentation of advocacy issues related to protection in Ethiopia.
  • Create viable and relevant Protection Information Management system(s) in coordination with M&E and advocacy colleagues for gathering, processing, analysing and sharing protection-relevant data.
  • Support efforts to mainstream gender sensitivity into NRC Ethiopia’s ways of working both internally and in terms of our programming
  • Country focal
    point for prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse (PSEA).

    Qualifications

  • Advanced University Degree/Masters Degree in a relevant field (law, social sciences or related disciplines).
  • At least 4 years of senior working experience in humanitarian protection.
  • A clear understanding of protection issues, legal frameworks and professional standards in humanitarian and displacement contexts.
  • Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
  • Experience in international organisations and/or NGOs.
  • Excellent analytical skills and communication skills in writing and speech.
  • Experience with facilitating and leading internal organisational processes.
  • Ability to coordinate tasks and work processes, and work with short deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and proactively with limited daily support and supervision.
  • A well-developed understanding of child protection and gender-based violence and projects that respond to these issues.
  • Experience in undertaking assessments and supporting others to do so.
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Experience in mainstreaming protection concepts within a humanitarian operation.
  • Advanced computer skills, especially in Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook.
  • Fluency in English. Knowledge of spoken Amharic an advantage.

  • Duty Station: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
  • Contract Duration: 6 months with possible extension
