I. Organisation Overview:

Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA) is an International Non-Governmental Organization with three decades operational history in South Sudan implementing humanitarian relief, early recovery and long-term development programs.

NPA interventions in South Sudan are conceived within a layered and integrated programming model where, humanitarian response, early recovery and various stages of development operate at the same time, in overlapping juxtaposition.

NPA’s South Sudan programs are organized around three thematic priorities- Food Security and Livelihood (FSL), Humanitarian Disarmament Program and Civil Society Development. NPA has operational presence in 6 out of the (former) 10 States which gives the agency a very impressive geographic footprint in South Sudan.

II. Purpose of Consultancy

The 2016 Annual Report is an important publication to highlight the programmatic and financial operations NPA in South Sudan in a readable fashion to all stakeholders.

This is to build credibility for the organization and to inspire confidence that the organization is worthy to receive the contributions and investment, made.

The purpose of this consultancy is to develop and produce a professional Annual Report for NPA- South Sudan country program, with strong content and attractive design to illustrate the results of the organization from 1 January to 31 December 2016.

The report, published in English, will be used for outreach and advocacy purposes and to provide information and visibility on NPA South Sudan Country Program, and its projects throughout the period. The Report will highlight demonstrable results and how these may have impacted the lives of beneficiaries.

NPA will also use the report for interactions with partners, including the national government, donors and civil society representatives in South Sudan.

III. Consultant’s Tasks and Responsibilities

i. Review existing material and information that feed into the Annual Report

ii. Assess need for further information and proceed to request for details from key working contacts

iii. Edit draft annual report a 15 page text (A4 size) for the 2016 Annual Report based on the information collected

iv. Work closely with the Communications officer to develop ideas for graphics and charts that creatively convey key messages/data in the report as well as write captions for the photos in the publication

v. Work closely with the communications officer to lay out and proofread the text as they are laid out

vi. After the draft text is reviewed by the relevant CO team, including the Country Director, the consultant will incorporate revisions
related to content, design and/or language. The text will adhere to NPA’s branding standards for language and presentation.

vii. Finalize and submit the annual report by 15 March 2017

IV. Key Deliverables The consultant will be responsible for the following key deliverables:

i. Draft Report as a Word document, including Table of Contents, Executive Summary, text, charts, photo captions

ii. Proofreading of design layouts to ensure that text and graphics are error free

iii. The final digital formats to be submitted are high-resolution PDF and editable Adobe Illustrator or In Design, in English

V. Format and Layout of the Annual Report

i. The format of the Annual Report should be in a 2-page spread booklet style (A4 size), of about 15 pages, focusing on achievements.

ii. Layout of the publication should be guided by NPA’s Branding Guidelines which, the Consultant will receive upon beginning of the Contract.

VI. Schedule:

Editing, lay out , proofreading and production of the Annual Report is anticipated to take 10 days from the day the consultant receives contributing materials for the report.

VII. Essential Qualifications:

Education Masters’ Degree in Public Relations, English Language or Literature, Communications, Journalism or Creative Writing with at least five (5) years’ experience.

Functional competencies

• Strong research and excellent writing skills in English;

• Excellent organizational skills;

• Experience in producing corporate products;

• Minimum five (5) years of progressive work experience in corporate communication

• Familiarity of the non-profit sector.

• Strong interpersonal skills, able to communicate and work with diverse people

• Ability to be flexible and respond to changes to text as part of the review and feedback process

• Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure
