Norwegian Church Aid (NCA) has been working together with strong partners in Southern Africa since the 90s, where we focus on supporting the communities’ ability to build their capacities and mobilise them to take charge and be active agents of change. The Southern Africa Regional Advocacy Programme (SARAP), focuses especially on fighting inequality and natural resource governance.

As our new regional programmes manager for the SARAP, your most important task will be to manage and develop the programme in close collaboration with national staff, relevant head office staff and NCA’s Country director in Tanzania, who will also be your line manager. In your role as country office manager, you will be responsible for the regional office and staff, which at present are based in Pretoria, South Africa.

The position is a two-year contract, with possibilities for extension depending on results and funding. There will be travelling involved, mainly within the region.

Duties and responsibilities:

Within your role as a programme manager, you will:

  • Ensure quality development of the programme, including programme planning and reporting
    Follow up and capacity build partner organisations in Botswana, Mozambique, South Africa and Zimbabwe
    Fundraise, network and build relations with faith-based actors, government representatives in relevant countries, the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Pretoria, potential donors and relevant civil society networks, especially those engaging in human rights, inequality, natural resource governance and green energy solutions

    As Country Office Manager, you will:

  • Be the head of, and manage a small staff at NCA’s Pretoria office, including safety and security responsibility and HR-management.

  • Serve as secretary to the NCA’s local board in South Africa

    Your qualifications contain the following:

  • Master’s degree
    or equivalent in relevant subject including but not limited to development, social sciences, natural resources governance and management. Extended relevant experience may compensate for an academic degree

  • Minimum five years of relevant work experience, including managerial positions; mentoring and supporting staff in their professional development

  • Experience with change management and the ability to take the role of a proactive and supportive teambuilder, motivating staff to embrace change and new ways of working during transitions

  • Experience with advocacy programme work, especially in planning and implementing

  • Experience with institutional donors and fundraising

  • Proven strong communication and coordination skills across organizational functions

  • Experience from working in Africa or with African issues

  • Proficiency in written and spoken English. Portuguese is an advantage

  • Experience in logistics and procurement management is an advantage

  • Work experience with faith-based actors is an advantage
