Purpose of the position: To fill an existing vacant post to teach Geography Education and Environmental Education.
A lecturer/ senior lecturer is expected to make contributions to the teaching and research efforts of the institution, and to carry out activities to maintain and develop his/her professional career relevant to the profession or discipline in terms of research and community engagement
Minimum Requirements...
Senior Lecturer: PHD in Geography or Geography Education
Lecturer: Master’s degree (e.g. M.Ed, M.Sc) in Geography or Geography Education or Environmental Education
With initial teacher’s qualification with Geography as a major as well as a Hons in Geography or Geography Education or Environmental Education
SACE registration.
Minimum 2-5 years Applicable teaching experience at school level
For Senior Lecturer: Minimum 2 years teaching experience at school level as well as at tertiary education institutes
For Senior Lecturer: Adequate research publications in accredited journals and post-graduate supervision
Any qualification in Environmental Education will be a strong recommendation
Essential competencies
Functional/technical competencies (knowledge and skills)
Advanced knowledge
of Geography (Human and Physical Geography, Map Work and GIS) and Environmental Education to teach Geography and Environmental Education content modules to undergraduate B.Ed and Hons Students.
Knowledge of dynamic teaching- learning technologies
Good computer skills in Word, Powerpoint, Excel, etc.
Use of blended learning environments, e.g. Internet and email
For lecturer basic research skills and advance research skills for senior lecturer.
Demonstration of language proficiency in order to function optimally in the various multilingual environments of the NWU.
Behavioural competencies.
Good communication skills
Good interpersonal Skills
