Job Summary

  • The Authority is seeking to recruit a highly competent, proactive and self–driven individual to fill the position of the Director General.

  • The Director General shall be the Chief Executive Officer and Secretary to the Board of the Authority and shall bear the responsibility for the day-to-day management of the Authority.

    Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Director General shall:

    • Be responsible for the overall operations of the Authority;

    • Advise the Board and Government on all matters relating to the implementation of the Industrial Training Act;

    • Be the Accounting Officer of the Authority;

    • Develop and recommend to the Board the long term strategy, business plans and annual operating budgets; and establish proper internal monitoring and control systems and procedures;

    • Coordinate and prepare business related proposals, reports and other submissions for consideration by the Board;

    • Generate sufficient alternatives to inform Board decision making;

    • Provide regular, thorough and prompt communication to the Board on key technical, financial and administrative matters;

    • Be responsible for stakeholder management and enhancement of the corporate image of the Authority;

    • Ensure that there is effective communication between the Management and the Board as well as between different levels of management;

    • Provide leadership to the management;

    • Ensure continuous improvement in the quality and value of services and products provided by the Authority;

    • Ensure continuous achievement of the Authority’s financial and operating goals and objectives;

    • Oversee and ensure implementation of corporate policies and programs;

    • Maintain a conducive work environment for attracting, retaining, and motivating employees;

    • Foster a corporate culture that promotes ethical practices and good corporate citizenship;

    • Serve as the spokesperson of the Authority on operational matters;

    • Ensure compliance with the laws of the Country;

    • Coordinate all regional offices; and

    • Perform any other duties as may be necessary to achieve the Authority’s objectives as set out in the Industrial Training Act.

    Job Qualifications

    • The successful applicant should
    possess extensive leadership and managerial experience of at least fifteen (15) years, five (5) of which must be in senior management.

    • He/she must possess a degree in engineering, technology, administration, finance, technical or industrial education, from a recognized university; and must be affiliated to a professional body.

    • Candidates with post graduate qulifications will have an added advantage.

    • The ideal candidate should also demonstrate in-depth knowledge and a clear understanding of industrial training.

  • Appointment to the position will be on contract for a term of five (5) years, renewable once, subject to satisfactory performance.
