Our client, a registered Kenyan NGO, who operates with the shared mission of providing education and support for impoverished Nairobi children whose families have been affected by HIV/AIDS is urgently seeking to recruit a Caseworker – Secondary.
Job Purpose:
The primary purpose of the role is to support the Secondary department, ensuring all the secondary age children are admitted into school, performing at an acceptable level, are
healthy, have a satisfactory home life all jointly contributing to their success and other matters by performing the following duties;
Duties and Responsibilities:
Support in ensuring that all secondary age children receive an acceptable level of education by admission in a nominated school
Support in ensuring that all secondary boarding high schools treat and educate the children in line with expectations
Support the general health of all secondary age children, ensuring their participation in school is not affected by poor health
Support in having oversight over the living conditions of all secondary age children, highlighting and resolving situations that are detrimental to the school performance of the children
Support in monitoring all secondary age children’s participation and performance in school and organization programs, monitoring progress, identifying and supporting high and low performers
Support in ensuring that all secondary age children are committed to building a strong relationship with their sponsor, meeting the relationship building and communication requirements expected of all children in the program
Support in building a good relationship with all the high schools that the secondary age children attend
Support in monitor child performance versus school performance, ensuring the schools are supporting the improvement of child performance
Support in implementation of different training of the children in the department
Support in visiting every secondary school ensuring the children are well treated and discuss performance level, in accordance to the pre-determined schedule
Support in ensuring that every secondary age child has a strong relationship with their sponsor, undertaking regular and meaningful correspondence
Monitor child home life situation by regularly visiting homes in accordance to pre-determined schedules
Make assessments of home visits in accordance to established guidelines
Support in the oversight and management of programmes offered by the organization, ensuring their value add is maintained and impact on secondary age children is measured and monitored
Support in ensuring that
every secondary age child participates in all the programs offered by the organization, including the library, Saturday program, computer lab, camp, sexual reproductive health and any other relevant programme
Participate in the monthly production of an accurate and timely secondary department report
Support in identification of high performing secondary age children, manage their performance effectively, ensuring they strive to achieve good pass marks in KCSE results
Support in identification of low performing secondary age children, support them in their education journey in collaboration with necessary school and teachers
Ensure the updating of Salesforce after each and every home and school visits
Ensure that all information in the sales force is up to date- secondary school children records, letters to sponsors, school marks, children progress and any other information that is important about the child
Key Competencies & Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in development or similar field
Must have at least 3 years work experience in development, in particular child and social development, two of which should include team management
Computer literate, with working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Google Docs and Sales force
Valid driving license with experience
Ability to build and maintain effective relationships, ensuring the relationship is adding value to the purpose
Able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing, adjusting communication style dependent upon whom the communication is with
To be able to demonstrate empathy as and when required
Ability to problem solve with a consulting mind-set
Capable of undertaking effective leadership and team management, able to resolve challenging situations in a diplomatic and impartial manner
Be a team player offering support and guidance as and when the need arises, even if it is outside the mandate of the secondary department
