Job Summary To support the company in achieving its strategic objective of effective risk management, monitor compliance with Uganda laws, regulations and policies that affect the company, perform internal compliance reviews to identify and report any areas of non compliance as well as any organizational risk, and generate high level recommendations to help management address the gap.
Duties and Responsibilities
Prepare audit feedback reported for the Audit and Risk committee of the Board.
Report any non-compliance issues to the Managing Director, Finance Director or Technical Director, as required.
Compile and submit appropriate compliance reports to relevant regulatory authorities
Ensure the whistle blowing process is effectively implemented and independent enough for employees to utilize.
Contribute to robust and effective compliance controls within organization e.g. policies and procedures.
Review marketing materials and sensitive external presentation to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
Ensure company adheres to all contractual obligations of the 4 governing agreements i.e. Concession and assignment agreement, Support Agreement with Government of Uganda and Generation License Agreement.
Prepare for, coordinate and support compliance audits (internal and external).
Provide assistance to internal and external auditors during audits.
Ensure that all audits findings are recorded and reported accurately and followed up with management so that issues can be rectified or clarified if incorrectly captured.
Develop an ethics and governance awareness programme for the company.
Liaise with Corporate Affairs to develop and share information on compliance related topics, policies, or procedures.
Work with the Human Resource Department and others as appropriate, to develop an effective compliance training program, including appropriate introductory training for new employees as well as ongoing training for all employees and managers.
Verify that all
regulatory policies and procedures have been documented, implemented and communicated to relevant employees.
Support the Regulatory and Compliance department staff to develop individual work plans for the week/month/year to create visibility and clarity of tasks.
Develop and implement individual performance compacts for staff and evaluate and assess staff performance regularly.
Manage expenses within approval budgets and in accordance with company policies, procedures and applicable legislation.
Investigate variances, compile variance explanation reports and implement actions to address any deviations.

Develop, review and upload company’s strategy within each respective department. assurance.
Develop a risk based audit compliance programme to monitor performance against all company’s regulatory and legal obligations.
Ensure all recommendations from Board and management, to improve governance, are duly implemented.
Minimum Qualification Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Law, Accounting, Finance, Audit or Risk.
A Master’s degree or MBA will be an added advantage.
Related Minimum Experience:
6 years of practical and related work experience in Compliance, Audit and Risk.
4 years of experience in a supervisory/management role.
Professional Registration with an accredited professional body eg.IIA.
