Job Purpose StatementThe role holder is a member of the Credit Risk Management Team, tasked with:
Review of the Group Credit Risk Management Policy
Review of Credit Processes and procedures
Review of Credit product guidelines
Review of Credit scoring models
Credit Quality assurance reviews & risk mitigation
Review and submission of management reports
Liaison with other country and regional functions on Credit policy/processes/procedures
Key Accountabilities (Duties and Responsibilities)
Financial
Ensure all activities geared towards achievement of deliverables, are within the set Credit Risk Management Budget.
Internal business processes
Contribute in setting the Credit risk appetite
Continuously review the appropriateness of the
chosen credit strategies in the light of any changes in the market place, competitors’ activities and the business environment.
Ensure all credit policies and guidelines are reviewed annually, monitor adherence to policy, update all amendments and track and report any policy exceptions.
Ensure all credit processes/procedures are well documented, reviewed at least annually, or earlier if need be and are updated to seal / remedy gaps noted in audit findings & compliance checks.
Review new Credit products and ensure monitoring and review of existing credit products performance is periodically conducted and any emergent issues and potential risks are addressed.
Oversee development, periodic monitoring and
regular review of credit modeling tools i.e score
cards, grading models, Risk Acceptance Criteria
(RAC) etc to address any emergent issues and potential risks.
Ensure exceptions are reviewed and tracked to
ensure they are operating within approved standards.
Ensure that the necessary controls are in place to address the risks encountered during the credit life cycle from origination, evaluation, documentation, account management and collections, via conducting periodic / random quality sample
checks.
Ensure that issues / deficiencies identified during quality checks conducted are promptly addressed & resolved.
Oversee resolution of credit related system issues to ensure that system gaps, challenges are promptly addressed and resolved, and desired & viable credit system improvements are reviewed and
implemented.
Ensure the credit certification program content is periodically reviewed, stakeholders have been
trained and the content is relevant.
Track all credit related projects and work with internal and external resources
to ensure timely delivery.
Ensure all Regulatory and Compliance issues are
tracked and closed on time for the unit.
Ensure the monthly reports are tabled at the
required forums/committees, and where necessary
that approval is obtained from the appropriate
sanctioning body.
Customer
Build and maintain positive working relationships with all levels of staff, to ensure effective problem and issue resolution.
Develop a strong team, skills and culture around within the unit and the stakeholder teams.
Learning and growth
Ensure the credit certification program content is periodically reviewed, stakeholders have been trained and the content is relevant.
Oversee the Credit risk related
attestation/certification programs
Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending and contributing to training programmes, educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, participating in professional structures & studies
Be self-driven and directed. Build excellence in coaching, problem solving, Presentation, communication and writing skills.
Provide constructive leadership, coaching and
advice to the reportees.
Ideal Job Specifications
Academic: Bachelor’s degree from a recognized accredited university. Master’s Degree is an added advantage
Professional: Professional qualification in Credit Management, Banking, Finance or any quantitative discipline is an added advantage.
Desired work experience:
Minimum 10 years working experience in Banking with at least five of those being in Managerial positions in Credit.
Working knowledge and effective application of all relevant banking policies, processes, procedures and internal control guidelines to consistently achieve required compliance standards or benchmarks.
Knowledge and experience of bank practices that provide the basis upon which to provide guidance on activities/tasks in a manner that consistently produce high quality of service, drives quality improvements and continuously evolving operational changes.
