Supervisor
The Deputy Director Productive Sector Department KIPPRA, working closely with the
Project Director NIPFN and the Senior Technical Advisor at the Kenya National Bureau
of Statistics, and the Senior Policy Analyst and NIPFN Coordinator at KIPPRA and the
Country Focal Person for the Global Support Facility (GSF)
Position Summary/ Purpose
To design and implementation communication and visibility plan for the KNIPFN;
Production of communication tools about food and nutrition policy; and supporting
Statistical Analysis Unit and Policy Analysis Unit Staff to communicate the results of their
analysis to different audiences depending on their nutrition policy needs.
Working closely with the Project Director KNIPFN and the Senior Technical Advisor in the Kenya National
Bureau of Statistics, and the Senior Policy Analyst and KNIPFN Coordinator at KIPPRA
and the country focal person in the Global Support Facility
Key Responsibilities
Develop and implement project communication and visibility plan and for branding, editing and
promoting the work of the KNIPFN.
Design and produce communication materials to translate KNIPFN findings into key messages to meet the needs of different audiences – policy makers, politicians, technical experts, policy advisors, County officials, NGOs and the general public.
Disseminate communication materials through the best channels to reach target groups in the most appropriate format.
Liaise with service providers to produce communication tools and project documents.
Work with the web managers of the KIPPRA and KNBS web sites to ensure the project web pages are
up-to-date.
Ensure that events organised by KNBS and KIPPRA are given a high profile in the country, and counties.
Prepare press briefings about the findings of the KNIPFN policy analysis.
Developing comprehensive public affairs and communications strategies.
Managing Institute’s relationship with the media;
Designing and approving corporate materials and branding;
Coordinating all the Institute’s public functions;
Reviewing the Institute’s corporate image;
Fostering stakeholder relations;
Ensuring appropriate feedback mechanisms are in place;
Coordinating the Institute’s advertising and publicity;
Ensuring maintenance of all public affairs and communications records and photographs;
Providing professional assistance to the Institute in all areas of communications, public relations and media relations;
Organizing public events;
Preparing media briefs and speeches;
Collecting information for the preparation of the Institute’s newsletter and supplements;
Developing proposals for sourcing appropriate media to disseminate information on activities of the Institute’s; and
Preparing radio and television infomercials; and preparing reports on communications.
Undertaking any other relevant assignment.
Qualifications
For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have: -
Master’s Degree in Public Relations, Journalism or Communications.
Bachelor’s Degree in communication, Public Relations or related field
Computer skills in desktop publishing
Minimum of ten (10)
years’ experience in Communication, Public Relations or Journalism with a specialist interest and experience in science, agriculture or health communications.
Interest and experience in food security, nutrition or communication in natural sciences will be an added advantage.
Excellent writing, editing and speaking skills in English and Kiswahili.
A good knowledge of common software used in the design of communication materials and
presentations.
Examples of at least three documents written in the last three years should be provided
with the application.
Must meet the requirements of Chapter six (6) of the Kenya Constitution 2010
Attributes
proven ability to identify and critically assess issues and trends
confident in networking and engaging with key institutions and relevant stakeholders to minimize research gaps
well- developed and practiced negotiating skills.
Knowledge of electronic publishing and web design management.
Active engagement and use of various social media platforms including writing and creating online institutional assets.
Ability to create new ideas and making connections with previously unrelated concepts.
Ability to work in a team and to establish or engage with communications networks.
Excellent organisational skills, rigorous attention to detail and an ability to work autonomously.
An ability to work in a stressful environment and to meet strict deadlines.
A good knowledge of common software used in the design of communication materials and presentations.
Examples of at least three documents written in the last three years should be provided with the application.
Excellent writing, editing and speaking skills in English and Kiswahili.
Experience of writing about complex technical matters in simple and clear language, driven by the need for comprehension.
