  • National Association for Women’s Action in Development (NAWAD) is a voluntary non-governmental women’s organization that was initiated by a group of women in 2009 and was legally registered in 2010. NAWAD is committed to promote a stable and peaceful society where women and girls access equal rights in the different spheres of life. The organization focuses on the family and the crucial role women play in their families, their communities and the development of Uganda as a nation.

  • The main goal of the organization is to promote the rights of women and girls especially in relation to sustainable natural resource management and climate change social and economic right and governance, peace and security. NAWAD has received a 1-year COVID-19 response grant to implement a project entitled “Strengthening Grassroots Women to respond to COVID-19 pandemic to enhance Safety” in Mbarara District. The project focuses on women and girls in market places of Biharwe, Rubaya and Kakika in Mbarara Municipality.

  • The project will build on the existing women groups in the area and also aims at involving men as change agents in gender based violence to encourage harmonious relationships in the families. The project will also work with the local government offices of the three sub counties especially the Community Development Officers.

  • NAWAD therefore seeks to recruit a highly skilled, organised, motivated and responsible Project Coordinator to help ensure the smooth and efficient delivery of the project outputs. She/he must be passionate about women and girls’ rights. She/he must be ready to demonstrate integrity by modelling NAWAD’s s values and ethical standards while promoting its Vision, Mission, and Strategic goals. The project Coordinator will be the head of the project under the leadership of NAWAD Executive Director. He/she will be stationed in Mbarara but with periodic visits to the head office in Wakiso .

    Main Tasks & Responsibilities

    • Overall coordination, planning, implementation and monitoring of the project activities, schedules, budgeting and expenditure for effective delivery of the project outputs.

    • Ensure that the project adheres to frameworks and all documentation is maintained appropriately

    • Submit project activity and monthly reports for verification to the NAWAD programs Manager, before submission to the Executive Director.

    • Regularly collect data through household surveys and participant interviews, and submit to NAWAD
    head office for analysis.

    • Liaise with key personnel internally at NAWAD and at partner organisations and other stakeholders, updating all on key steps, convening (and minuting) meetings as required, and generally optimising collaboration on output delivery.

    • Prepare necessary presentation materials for all project meetings/trainings.

    • Chair and facilitate all project related meetings/trainings where appropriate and distribute minutes to all project team members.

    • Ensure project deadlines are met.

    • Provide project administrative support as needed.

    • Assess project risks and issues and provide solutions where applicable.

    • Ensure stakeholder views are managed towards the best solution.

    Required Skills

    • Minimum of an undergraduate degree in social sciences with a bias on Women and Gender Studies, Development Studies, Community Development or any other relevant degree from a recognised University.

    • Computer literate with excellent understanding of Microsoft Word and Excel.

    • Use of a smart-phone or tablet experience also required.

    • Proven work experience as a Project Coordinator or similar role of at least three years

    • Ability to multi-task and manage priorities, meeting deadlines as required

    • Experience in project management, from conception to delivery

    • An ability to prepare and interpret flowcharts, schedules and step-by-step action plans

    • Knowledge of file management, transcription, and other administrative procedures.

    • Experience of working with rural women and girls and local government structures

    • Excellent interpersonal communication skills team management, with proven problem-solving abilities

    • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally in both spoken and written Runyakitara.

    • Genuine, valid Uganda riding permit is an added advantage

    • Good training & facilitation skills
