Overall purpose of the job: Responsible for managing the Union’s finances, budgets, financial reporting, business planning and controls.
Duties and ResponsibilitiesHead the Finance department;
Oversee the formulation and implement the union’s financial plans and budgets premised on the generally accepted accounting standards;
Develop, review and implement sound financial management policies, procedures and controls premised on the core values of the Union;
Oversees timely preparation of periodic financial reports, cash flow statements and bank reconciliation statements;
Oversees the maintenance, preparation and updating of the books of accounts;
Cause the timely auditing of the Union’s books of account;
Oversees the development of appropriate financial information management systems
Manage and monitoring of all receivable and payable accounts;
Review and authorise vote heads, invoices, imprest and departmental appraisals.
Ensures timely remittance of statutory payments and general compliance with statutory requirements;
Spearhead financial negotiations with stakeholders and partners concerning contractual engagement, facilities, business prepositions and all matters with financial implications;
Identify and address challenges and gaps within the finance docket;
Advise and guide the Union and its Board on all financial matters;
And any other duties assigned by General Manager.
Knowledge and Skills Required:
The Job holder must possess:
Bachelor’s degree in Finance or its
equivalent;
CPA will be an added advantage;
Minimum three (3) years relevant experience in accounting & Financial Management; one (1) of which should year in a managerial role;
Experience working in a cooperative will be an added advantage;
High levels of integrity, strong management and interpersonal skills;
Strong analytical and computer skills, especially with accounting software, spreadsheets, and financial analysis;
Able to interpret and clearly explain complex financial data to non-finance staff.
Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills, creative problem-solving, conflict, ethical management, and excellent written and oral communication skills;
Excellent organisational skills with keen attention to detail;
Negotiation skills and the ability to develop strong working relationships;
Commercial and business awareness;
Ability to stick to time constraints.
