Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) is one of the largest Teaching and Referral

Job Purpose:

Formulating, developing, implementing and Reviewing Clinical Services’ Policies,
Procedures and Guidelines.

Setting standards and quality assurance systems in the provision of clinical services. Formulating, developing, reviewing medico-legal
standards and guidelines.

Undertaking disease surveillance, control and management.

Responsibilities:

Senior Principal Clinical Officer responsibilities include:

Providing clinical services in the hospital;

Conducting ward rounds, reviewing and making appropriate referrals;

Carrying out surgical procedures as per training and skill;

Offering specialized clinical services including Ear, Nose and
Throat/Audiology, Orthopedics & Trauma, Child Health & Pediatrics,
Reproductive Health, Ophthalmology, Anesthesia, Lungs & Skin,
Dermatology & Venereology;

Compiling and analyzing clinical data;

Guiding and counseling patients, clients and sts If on health issues;

Sensitizing patients and clients on preventive and promotive health;

Assessing, preparing and presenting medico-legal reports;

Carrying out disease surveillance, and recommending appropriate cotitrol
measures; and

Coaching and mentoring students on attachment.

Minimum Requirements:

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:

Served for a minimum period of eight {8) years relevant work with at least
three (3) in supervisory capacity.

Bachelor’s Degree in Clinical Medicine & surgery or Clinical Medicine &
Community Health from a recognized institution.

Higher Diploma in Clinical Medicine & Surgery in any of the following:
Anesthesia, Ear, Nose, Throat/Audiology, Child Health & Pediatrics, Lung &
Skin, Orthopedics & Trauma, Reprodticti¥e Health,
EpidemioIr)gy, Ophthalmology & Cataract Surgery or
Dermatology & Venereology or Medical Education or its equivalent
qualificatiton from a recognized

institution Senior Management Course or
equivalent lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized
institution.

Certificate of Registration from the Clinical Officers’ Council.

Proficiency in computer applications.

Fulfilled the requirements of Chapter Six (6› of the Constitution of Kenya,
2010.
