MRC/UVRI and LSHTM Uganda Laboratory Technologist – Biorepository Jobs
Job Purpose: The post holder will be responsible for day- to-day sample accessioning, processing, storage and retrieval activities within the Unit biorepository in accordance to GCLP standards and ISBER best practices.
Roles & Responsibilities
Reception, labelling and Storage of samples within the biorepository;
Ensure that the samples in the freezers are well- organized and all available storage data captured within the storage database;
sample data entry and management in Freezer works database;
Identify and retrieve samples for testing in-house use and international shipments;
maintain up-to date retrieval and shipping inventories within the storage database;
Conduct regular QC of the physical samples against their associated data within freezer works;
Environmental monitoring of freezer temperatures and emergence response to alarms;
Record and monitor temperatures for freezers ensuring that they are clean, operating within set temperature ranges and the maintenance logs are kept up-to date;
Identify and record Corrective and preventive actions within the biorepository section;
Writes technical Standard operating procedures; and,
To be fully aware and comply with the units Health and safety;
Person Specification
Bachelor’s degree in biomedical laboratory technology (or
equivalent);
Minimum 1yrs practical experience within a clinical or biomedical research laboratory
environment;
Should have good practical skills in the required clinical laboratory techniques;
Experience in using Freezer works sample management database or similar is desired;
Should have IATA Certification;
Should have good practical skills and knowledge in a range of sample handling and storage requirements;
Possession of knowledge of ISBER best practices for Repositories/Documentation is
desired;
Equipment troubleshooting skills / GCLP/ documentation skills;
Should possess computer skills with proficiency in Word, Excel, Access & Power point;
Great communication skills; and,
Good interpersonal skills.
