Job Purpose: Reporting to the Head of the GPC, the Survey Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating all the activities of the GPC census and survey. He will hold meetings will all the stakeholders and any other public engagement activities that are related to the GPC census and survey.
The post holder will assist the Head of GPC to supervise the daily activities of the GPC study clinic. Will work with the GPC Head to ensure timely renewal of ethics for all studies within the GPC. Will also deputize the GPC Head when absent.
Roles & Responsibilities
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Work with the Head of GPC to ensure that all studies under the GPC have up-to-date IRB approvals;
Responsible for daily coordination of survey field activities such as transport, assigning
staff roles and measuring outputs, timely sample delivery to the laboratories;
Ensure adherence to ethical standard through review of the consent process in the field;
Ensure proper questionnaire administering by checking for completeness and consistency;
Ensure safety and proper use of field equipment;
Ensure quality control processes such as calibration of field equipment, staff training,
appropriate administering of the questionnaire;
Training staff regularly on study protocol;
Provide regular progress reports of survey field activities and suggest strategies to
improve participation;
Ensure compliance with protocol procedures and SOPs;
Ensure proper disposal of medical waste;
Arrange meetings when necessary to sensitise communities on study activities and study results;
Contribute to study design, publications and presentation of GPC results to MRC Science meeting and meetings outside the country when necessary;
Ensure timely and accurate data collection in the GPC i.e. mapping, census and survey;
Conduct annual performance appraisals for GPC project staff (mapping, census and
survey) and monitor output on a daily basis;
Write, review, file and upload GPC study documents (SOPs, laboratory forms and any
other forms) on the ipassport as required by standard procedure;
Oversee requisitions, follow-ups and reception of GPC drugs and supplies;
Ensure that Vehicles and motorcycles are put to proper use while in the field; and,
Work with the GPC Head on supervising the day to day activities of the GPC clinic.
Financial Management
The post holder has no direct budgetary responsibility but will support financial management by;
Supporting oversight over optimum utilisation
of the GPC budget;
Supporting the Head of GPC in identifying, tracking and reporting on opportunities for cost recovery from externally funded grants;
Working with Procurement department to ensure value for money is achieved when
procuring services or items; and,
Support of internal and external audits.
Line Management Responsibility
The post holder will deputize the GPC Head for managing a dynamic multidisciplinary team in the platform. As such, the Deputy Head of GPC ensures that;
Staff are enabled to perform their assigned duties as expected;
Staff performance is regularly monitored;
Potential conflicts are resolved promptly and decisively, involving HR support where needed;
Formal appraisals are conducted within the departments in line with the Unit’s schedule;
Applicable LSHTM and Unit HR policies are being followed at all levels; and,
Participate in the development and implementation of equal opportunity, diversity and inclusion initiate.
LSHTM Integration
The Unit has transferred to LSHTM in 2018. The post-holder is expected to support the further integration of the Unit into the School by;
Engage constructively with departments across LSHTM, as needed; and,
Capitalize on new opportunities that result from the transfer to improve staff training,
quality of work and operational efficiency.
Person Specification
Diploma in Clinical Medicine, Comprehensive Nursing or BSc. in Nursing or other related
At least 3 years working experience in a research setting working in field surveys or clinical trials.
Experience in direct supervision of people in surveys, clinical trials or clinical setting
Management experience is an added advantage
Previous experience of implementing research study protocols.
Understanding of ICH/GCP for human research and should have certification in in the
same.
Counselling and data management skills
Certificate in research methods and statistical analysis
Certificate in management skills
Evidence of publication in a peer reviewed journal
