Purpose of the Consultancy:

The Consultant will serve as the Agriculture Development Specialist as part of the team carrying out this consultancy. H/she will be responsible for providing substantive technical input on proposed agriculture development-related components during the implementation phase of the project specifically for maize, beans, coffee, banana and vegetables.

In particular this relates to the design, oversight, coordination, quality assurance, and monitoring of the LIP’s performance and delivery related to agriculture.

Deliverables:

Prepare or update training manuals for pre-, mid- and end-of-season training for maize, beans and vegetables and submit to Montrose for approval. Review and revise the training manuals following feedback from Montrose and our partners as required. Training manuals must be technically accurate and simple enough for PAPs to understand to improve their uptake of Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs)

Conduct a comprehensive ToT for the LIP team (including Field Liaison Supervisors and Field Liaison Officers) and Montrose LRC Supervisors for pre-, mid- and end-of-season training for two growing seasons.

Oversee and support LIP to conduct pre-, mid- and end-of-season training to PAHs.

Conduct regular monitoring visits to the demonstration gardens and the PAH gardens every season and troubleshoot any issues arising, including refresher training for the LIP if/when required.

This support may also be given remotely as agreed with the Montrose Programme Manager.

Prepare field report following ToT and other technical visits or remote support and submit to Montrose for review and feedback to the LIP.

Support the Montrose LRC Supervisors and the LIP team in the execution of the agriculture enterprises, including advising on agricultural inputs (seed, implements etc) to ensure only the highest quality products are provided to PAHs.

Work closely with the Montrose and LIP M&E Specialists in calculating/modelling yield and income estimates and input into the measurement of different indicators during the lifecycle of the project. This support may entail computing yield data in a meaningful way to inform the analysis of livelihood restoration.
