Mombasa County Public Service Board Building Inspectors Jobs in Mombasa Kenya

Mombasa County Public Service Board is looking for suitable qualified and competent persons for the following positions within the County Government:

Building Inspectors

The building inspectors will work under the supervision the Chief Building inspector performing technical duties in enforcing construction codes to insure public safety and health.

For appointment to this post, a candidate must meet the following:

Qualifications

Be a Kenyan citizen;

Have a from a recognized institution; a Diploma from a recognized institution OR equivalent;

Have 3 years working experience in a construction related field OR worked as clerk of works.

Have demonstrated professional competence, integrity and result oriented;

Meet the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya; and

Certificate in computer applications skills from a recognized institution

Demonstrated merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.

Functions

construction work for which a building permit is required

Inspects new buildings, additions to and alterations of existing buildings for compliance
Reads and interprets adopted codes, technical manuals, drawings, instructions, specifications as related to construction projects.

Works with the public to answer basic development application Queries.

Schedule inspections and updates results of inspections performed

Writing of inspections reports

Reviews very basic plans for compliance.

Evaluates existing buildings and complains
Studies technical literature, be updated on applicable codes and any changes.

Monitor construction sites periodically to ensure overall compliance

Issue violation notices and stop-work orders until building is compliant

Keep daily logs, including photographs taken during inspection

Providing efficient customer

service.

Able to organize and prioritize work.

Knowledge and skills of:

County City policies, procedures, codes, and ordinances.

Title 24 of the State Code of Regulations.
Health and Safety Code.

Construction scheduling, practices, and methods.

Architectural design and construction methods.

Thoroughly carrying out oral and written instructions.

Using initiative, discretion, and good judgment within established procedures, guidelines, and rules.

Defining problems; establishing facts and drawing valid conclusions.

Managing situations requiring diplomacy, fairness, firmness, and sound judgment.

Interpreting and applying City, state, and federal codes, laws, and regulations.

Operating a personal computer and various software applications.

Practicing appropriate safety precautions and procedures.

Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with managers, supervisors, employees, architects, engineers, developers, contractors, private agencies, and the general public.
