Duties and Responsibilities

An individual appointed as an Associate Professor shall:

Teach and assess courses in one's discipline/area of specialization at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels;

Supervise undergraduate students' projects and other experiential learning programmes;

Supervise dissertations/theses at postgraduate level;

Assist in developing/ review of undergraduate and postgraduate courses;

Initiate, promote and participate in research projects and publish research findings;

Provide academic leadership through programme development, mentoring and research;

Provide professional and community services, and initiate strategic partnerships and linkages, and undertake fundraising for the University; and time to time.

For appointment to this position, a candidate must:-

Have Doctor of Philosophy degree (Ph.D./D.Phil.) from a recognized/accredited institution;
OR

Have a Master of Medicine degree with a specialty in Plastic Surgery;

Have a cumulative of three (3) years of teaching or research experience at university level since becoming a Senior Lecturer or Senior Researcher;

Have research output points comprising at least thirty-six (36) points from refereed scholarly journals and/ or university level book, six (6) points from postgraduate students' supervision and two (2) points from publications in conference proceedings since appointment to the
position of Senior Lecturer;

Show evidence of continued evaluated effective teaching and successful supervision of graduate students;
OR

Show evidence of continued evaluated effective research and successful supervision of postgraduate students' research projects;

Show evidence of recognition and registration by a relevant regulatory body where applicable;

Show evidence of membership or affiliation to a relevant professional body where applicable;

Show evidence of contribution to community, national and international service;

Show evidence of contribution to University service through participation in Departmental matters, student's academic advising, and School and University meetings and committee
membership, among others; and

Show evidence of having developed proposals that have attracted funding.
