We are seeking to engage dynamic and results oriented health professionals
who will work across the country in support of Specialized Renal Services
(including haemodialysis) in the Counties under the Management Equipment Service (MES) Programme of the Ministry of Health; to fill the following
positions:
1. Twenty four (24) Nephrology Nurses – MTRH Scale (M9)
Ref: MTRH/HR/1/09/2016
Duties and Responsibilities
i. Must be able to work in a Renal Unit.
ii. Must have knowledge on all forms of renal replacement therapies: peritoneal
dialysis, haemo-dialysis and conservative management of patients with renal
conditions and complications.
iii. Must be able to receive, assess, diagnose, plan, implement and evaluate
nursing care of patients with renal conditions and complications.
iv. Must be conversant and be able to operate different types of renal dialysis
machines with minimal technical support.
v. Must be able to handle both adult and paediatric patients including provision of
health education and counseling.
vi. Must be able to mentor staff and students in a dialysis unit including care of
dialysis equipment.
vii. Must be able to operate a haemo-dialysis machine that extracts blood from the
patient, cleans it and return into the body.
viii. Monitoring patient vital signs, communicating procedure details with patients
and their families and assessing the effectiveness of procedures, as well as
being responsible for work area cleanliness.
ix. Counseling of Renal Patients with their families.
x. Preparation of patients for kidney transplants; intra-operative and postoperative
care of kidney transplant patients.
For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:
i. Holder of Kenya Registered Community Health Nurse or Kenya Registered
Nurse.
ii. Holder of Higher Diploma in Nephrology Nursing.
iii. Registered and have current practicing license from the Nursing Council of
Kenya.
iv. Have a minimum of one (1) year experience.
v. Work experience in a busy Renal Unit will be an added advantage.
2. Medical Specialist I (Nephrologist) – Scale M4, Ref: MTRH/HR/7/09/2016
Duties and Responsibilities
Perform various tests like blood tests, urine tests and biopsies, analyze the
results of imaging scans, and prescribe the most appropriate medications or
physical treatments for speedy recovery of patients suffering from Kidney
malfunctioning, Kidney stones etc.
Treat patients with diseases like hypertension, diabetes and acute renal
disease.
Preparation of patients for renal transplants and outpatient review of
transplanted patients
Perform renal biopsy as a day case procedure.
Assessment and treatment of acute kidney injury problems
Clinical audit and quality control.
Continuing Professional Development.
Participate in teaching, appraisal and development of undergraduate medical
students and postgraduate students.
Review cases by analyzing, laboratory findings, or case investigation reports.
Develop and adopt new tests or instruments to improve diagnosis of diseases.
Conduct research and present scientific findings.
Plan and supervise the work of the nephrology staff, residents and visiting nephrologists.
Spearhead performance management in the department.
Managing quality standards and procedures.
For appointment to this post, a candidate must have:
i. Masters in Internal Medicine specialized in Nephrology
ii. Bachelors Degree in Medicine and Surgery (MB.Ch.B)
iii. Registered with Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board (MPDB).
iv. Specialist recognition certificate from the Medical Practitioners’ and Dentists
Board.
v. Must have current annual retention certificate (2016) from MPDB.
vi. Attended a Senior Management course lasting not less than four(4) weeks; and
vii. Shown competence and capability in work performance and maintain good
personal and professional conduct;

3. Deputy Director, Administration and Finance (Scale M2)
Ref: MTRH/HR/19/09/2016
This position is a Senior Management position, reporting to the Chief Executive Officer.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Deputy Director (Administration and Finance) will be responsible for the following: -
Provision of strategic leadership that ensures delivery of specialized quality health services.
Direct, control and coordinate the general administrative services and staff in the Hospital.
Be responsible for the management and efficient utilization of resources in the administrative departments.
Participating in budget preparation within the Hospital and also nationally as well as monitoring budgetary performance.
Approving expenditure and ensuring all payments are approved by the Chief Executive Officer.
Coordinating interdepartmental activities.
Monitoring and evaluation of projects.
Strategic planning.
Performance management.
Monitoring quality standards and procedures.
Formulating and implementing Hospital Policies.
Coordinating maintenance of buildings and equipment.
Training, counseling, guiding and mentoring staff.
As a team member, work on disciplinary control of staff.
Liaise closely with administrative coordinators in the clinical divisions for appropriate and efficient administrative back-up of these divisions.
Liaise with agencies in the health sector for the support, expansion, maintenance and streamlining of the hospital’s health services along the national health policy guidelines.
Advise, plan, coordinate administrative staff training and development programmes.
Any other duties as may be allocated by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
Job Specification for Appointment
Appointment to the grade of Deputy Director (Administration and Finance) will be made from candidates who must be in possession of both Bachelors and Masters degrees in Administration/ Management, Business Administration or Social Sciences from a recognized university.
Possession of a PhD in Administration/Management will be an added advantage.
He/she must possess the necessary competence, administrative ability and must have a proven track record in the senior management of large organizations, either as a Deputy Chief Executive Officer or in equivalent positions for not less than ten (10) years.
Evidence of adherence to Quality Management Systems and solid Integrity will be mandatory.
Serving Senior Assistant Director(s), Administration and Finance will be eligible for promotion to the grade of Deputy Director, Administration and Finance provided they possess the necessary academic and professional qualifications, and have shown merit and ability in the performance of their duties for the minimum period stated above.

Strategic Leadership Development Programme Certificate or its equivalent.

Possession of CPA (K) will be an added advantage.
Terms of Service
This job will be on a three (3) years’ contract, renewable once for a further period of 3 years subject to satisfactory work performance.
In addition to the basic salary, the successful candidate will get extraneous allowance, generous house allowance, risk allowance and commuter allowance. Service gratuity will be payable at the end of the 3 years’ contract.
