Job description

We are looking to hire an operations manager who would be expected to fill the country director role within 18-24 months.

We are looking for high-caliber candidates with either a track record or the ability to be excellent leaders. Candidates will be expected to bear the responsibility of and manage the day-to-day operations of the entire business and will be expected to travel frequently and spend extended periods of time outside Freetown (potentially nationwide).

Candidates must have the tenacity and drive to succeed and push forward their business interests in the face of rigorous challenges. There will be a multitude of challenges the operations manager will face on a daily basis; this will include but is not limited to:

• Developing and helping to implement international & domestic logistics plans

• Working with clearing agents and government bodies to clear equipment into Sierra Leone

• Interacting with, developing, and training our team in our MOPO technology and data platform

• Analyzing data to gain insight into business performance to make operational decisions

• Traveling nationwide to develop a pipeline off-grid/potential MOPO50 energy hub locations

• Negotiating with Chiefs, community leaders, government officials, and businessmen to secure favorable leases and business terms for MOPO50 energy hubs across Sierra Leone

• Hiring and managing a team – this includes operations, installation engineers, finance, logistics, and any other teams we may need to build for Mobile Power Sierra Leone to succeed

• Travelling nationwide with the operations and installation team to install MOPO50 energy hubs, recruit, train, and overseas MOPO50 agents, and ensure the effective running of our businesses on the ground

• Communicate with Mobile Power colleagues in the UK and
Nigeria to learn, share and implement best practices

The operations manager role is a multifaceted leadership role with lots of responsibility and opportunities to grow. Although significant portions of time will be spent in an office environment – this is not an office job. Candidates are expected to be extremely flexible and able to travel and manage issues at short notice. The key skills we are looking for are:

• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiating skills

• A lead-by-example leadership style – must be able to inspire and manage a large team effectively

• Highly numerate, literate, and intelligent. An ability to understand and solve complex problems (both practical and abstract in nature)

• Technically savvy, proficient in understanding and utilizing data, using mobile phone apps and the internet

• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word

• An excellent judge of character, an ability to quickly understand people’s motives and abilities across the socio-economic spectrum, and an ability to use this understanding to gain favorable outcomes

• Manageable and humble attitude – an ability to work with others, take feedback and grow and improve as a professional
