General Background

  • MCW (Miracle Corners of the World) is a non-profit organization founded in 1999 with the vision “Communities throughout the world achieve greater levels of education, improved health and increase economic security” and mission to address communities pressing needs by empowering current leaders and readying leaders of tomorrow. Based in New York, with partner organizations in Africa (Zambia, Sierra Leone, Tanzania and Rwanda), MCW offers the following: Community Development, Oral Health Care and Young Leaders programs. MCW also supports Partner Initiatives, including Human Rights and Pediatric AIDS Treatment for Africa (PATA).

  • In keeping with MCW mission which is to address communities’ pressing needs by empowering current leaders and readying leaders of tomorrow, Miracle Corners Zambia (MCZ) was born in 2009 in response to the local community needs to develop relevant skills and capacity toward social and economic transformation.

  • Recently MC-Z redesigned its programs to suit the needs of the community. The new programs include the Enhancement of Women and youth Empowerment project, the IT in schools’ project aimed at promoting improved computer literacy in schools. The organization also runs a literacy program for both children and adults. The programs are scheduled to begin in January 2021.

    General Role Description

  • The MC-Z Project Officer will work closely with the program officer to implement the activities of Women and youth empowerment and the IT in schools’ projects in Chanyanya, the catchment area.

    The Project officer will fulfil the following roles:

    • Implement the activities for the two projects.

    • Provide guidance on the empowerment and IT in schools’ projects.

    • Lead in the formation and organization of women and youth clubs under the Empowerment project and the formation of IT clubs in the targeted schools.

    • Work closely with the Program Officer to implement strategic plans, policies and goals. .

    Specific Role Description

    Women and youth empowerment project

  • Assists in the establishment of the Organization goals and objectives.

  • Mobilize and support the formation of women and youth clubs.

  • Work with Program officer to carry out community sensitization on various activities.

  • Support the women clubs under the
    incubator project (tailoring groups) in sourcing for market.

  • Provide mentorship to members of the clubs involved in various activities including village banking and tailoring.

  • Organize meetings with stake holders.

  • Conduct monitoring and evaluation of the said project.

  • Maintain a schedule of planned activities.

  • Planning and budgeting

    IT in Schools project

  • Manage the Computer resource center at the center in Chanyanya

  • Support the formation of IT clubs in the targeted schools

  • Hold review meetings with school authorities and other stake holders

  • Identify training needs for IT teachers in schools and plan for capacity building.

  • Maintain schedule of planned activities.

  • Conduct monitoring and evaluation and produce reports

  • Planning and budgeting for the project

  • Monthly, quarterly and annual report writing and submit to the country manager/donors.

    Requirements:

    Required Professional and Educational Qualities:

  • At least a Diploma in Social science – Development studies, Social work, project management from an accredited higher learning institution. :

  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience in program implementation with 2 years’ experience working with empowerment programs especially for the women and youths. :

  • Experience working on educational programs and working with schools will be an added advantage:

  • Demonstrate a reasonable level of computer literacy. :

    Required Personal Qualities:

  • Be an enthusiastic visionary, an encourager, and a self-starter with a high energy level.

  • Demonstrate sensitivity towards other staff, youths and community members and have the ability to interact effectively with them.

  • Understand the importance of discernment, discretion, and confidentiality in the operation of the Organization

  • Ability to collaborate with local government agencies

  • Ability to work with the women, youths and educational authorities.

    Special knowledge

    • Working knowledge of empowerment programs and club formation.

    • Strong organizational, communication, community mobilization, and interpersonal skills

    • Proven ability and willingness to work independently, prioritize and hold oneself accountable;

    • Strong mastery of Google Drive and Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel;

    • Fluency in English Bemba and Nyanja

    • This position is based in Chanyanya, Kafue.
