Ministry of Works and Transport Hydrologist Jobs in Uganda

Applications are invited from suitably qualified, knowledgeable and skilled Ugandans to fill the vacancies that exist in the Ministry of Works and Transport, Department of Roads and Bridges, Division of Bridges and drainage structures on contract basis.

The Division of Bridges is developing a design Unit that will handle in-house design and implementation of bridges and drainage structures across the country. This is an approach by the Ministry to ensure development of designs in short periods of time but also taking into consideration durability, cost effectiveness and sustainability.

Minimum Qualifications and experience:

Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil engineering or in any other related field from a recognized institution with at least five (5) year’s work experience in Civil Engineering or related field.

The applicants MUST have hands-on experience in in carrying out hydrological and hydraulic analysis of Roads and Bridge projects using software applications including Arc-GIS, HY-8 and HEC-RAS.

Duties and responsibilities

• Carry out site inspections and obtaining catchment characteristics for hydraulic structures;

• Analyze hydrological data;

• Delineate watersheds and obtain catchment areas and related attributes i.e. slopes, contributing channel streams, soil and vegetation cover for each proposed site;

• Carry out Hydrological design to obtain peak runoffs in line with the Ministry of Works Drainage Design Manual 2010 and other Internationally recognized standards;

• Check capacity of existing hydraulic structures on the DUCAR network using peak flows and propose adequate drainage structures;

• Develop and compile hydrological and hydraulic design reports for input into the Detailed design report; and

• Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
