Qualifications and experienceA Diploma in Biomedical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering from a recognized Institution with a minimum of post graduate diploma in management
Experience in working with multi-sectorial stakeholders in different organisations will be added advantage.
Should have strong problem solving, communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work under minimum supervision.
Roles and Responsibilities
Provide day-to-day technical leadership for waste management schemes, including landfill where applicable.
Supervise the transportation of waste to ensure that it is done in compliance with environmental safety standards to prevent contaminating air, land or water sources.
Assist with the development, promotion and implementation of new waste disposal schemes in the health facility and the region.
Ensure compliance with legislation in the transportation, handling and disposal of waste.
Formulate and control budgets for waste disposal.
Conduct routine monitoring of HCWM implementation, i.e. collate statistics and compile routine and periodic reports to strict deadlines.
Assist with the development of HCWM strategic and implementation plans and in the development of information materials to promote safe implementation and control of HCWM in the facilities.
Aim to meet waste reduction and recycling targets.
Investigate and follow up claims of the illegal dumping of waste and work with other waste regulation enforcement staff.
Identify and target areas with
fly tipping or black bag problems, working to find solutions to eliminate them.
Consult with residents, community groups, councillors, housing associations and traders' associations about waste management issues, identify their requirements and recommend appropriate solutions.
Engage in operational research projects and contribute to the institutionalization, environmental control; and participate in activities of regional groups concerned with waste disposal.
Perform any other duties assigned by management from time to time.

Monthly performance reports
Quarterly and Annual Performance reports produced.
Contribution to waste management policy formulation related to environmental health and occupational health and safety.
Hazardous and industrial wastes controlled.
Environmental pollution controlled.
Safe sewage/ solid waste disposal controlled.
Status of hospital and environmental wastes monitored.
Capacity building for waste management developed.
