Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development Principal Environment Officer – Engineering Jobs in Uganda



Minimum Qualification

  • Applicants should be Ugandans holding an Honours Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering plus a Masters Degree in Environmental Engineering from a recognized University /Institution. Applicants should be registered with the Engineers’ Registration Board (ERB).

    Working Experience

  • Applicants should have a minimum of six (6) years relevant working experience, three (3) of which should have been served at the level of Senior Environment Officer in Government or equivalent level of relevant experience from a reputable organization .

    Duties

    The incumbent will be responsible to the Assistant Commissioner, Health, Safety and Environment for performing the following duties:-

  • Implementing Policies, Laws, Regulations, Programmes and Guidelines for Environmental Management in the Minerals, Petroleum and Energy programmes;

  • Designing, developing, testing and implementing technical solutions to reduce negative impact on the environment;

  • Obtaining and maintaining plans, permits and standard operating procedures;

  • Developing guidelines for the disposal of hazardous materials and waste management in the Minerals, Petroleum and Energy programmes;

  • Monitoring and evaluating the implementation of environment policies inorder to ensure compliance with National
    Policies, Regulations, Strategies, Standards and Plans;

  • Providing technical advice to the Ministry and other stakeholders on environment related aspects;

  • Coordinating the inspections, technical audits, research and training so as to strengthen compliance to Environmental Laws, Policies and Regulations in the Ministry in collaboration with other lead Agencies;

  • Sensitizing and promoting environment awareness within the Ministry and among other relevant stakeholders;

  • Supervising, appraising and capacity building of the staff within the Section;

  • Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
